Got a cup of their Clam Chowder and the fish and chips for lunch. The chowder was great! Lots of clam and the perfect amount of richness. A lot better than Moe's in my opinion. The fish and chips were fresh and flaky and not 'swimming' in breading. The fries are wicked tastes too. Great food, and quick personable service, this place is a must of you're in the vicinity!

Excellent food and service! Love it there and will definitely return. I recommend it. Also the drinks were awesome

Upside: Great day at the beach, good beer. Downside: Slow Service, my fish and chips didn't have much fish, and the fries were average. Three stars it shall be! I like the bar in there, I'd definitely get some brews if I was hanging in Pacific City, but I might seek food elsewhere.

Stopped in the bar area today for a quick drink. We had our dogs in the car so we didn't want to stay long. I ordered the taster tray for $7. It came with 7 tastes, 6 that were regulars on tap and 1 that was seasonal. I enjoy them all, which is rare. My husband ordered a pint of whatever they had on cask. (Can't remember Silver-something). He really enjoyed that. It left me wishing I'd ordered one too! Didn't have a chance to try the food, but we saw many people eating lunch and everything looked tasty. We will be back next time we are in Pacific City.

Had breakfast here on Sunday after Valentine's Day . It was not good scrambled eggs and potatoes were prepared already then served cold. What a crap show. The view can't be beat. So go here and have a brew but skip the food. On their review form they ask if you would return my answer was not again

Relax and enjoy the view. Perfect location. Right on the beach where you can watch the sunset while you eat dinner. I have a feeling that this is what causes the pace of service to be a little off. But hey, if I have something good in my belly and something beautiful to look at I'll look past some mediocre service (hence my undying love for the Acropolis) The service is a bit amateur. However I've come to expect that in seasonally driven places. They are friendly and that counts for something. I love their automated cellular telephone calling system. You can enjoy a walk on the beach and work up an appetite for the food. Unlike those ridiculous pagers that they have at other places. Seriously, step into the 2000's Pagers are for drug dealers. The food is really good. I love their incorporation of their beer into the recipes to enhance them. Not just adding beer for beers sake. My wife got the clam pasta which had excellent flavors and were helped out a lot by the sweetness and bitterness of the beer. I had the fish and chips. They are panko style, but I actually prefer that. Sometimes beer batter gets too heavy. I'm told the beer is good, but I'm not a big beer fan. The prices are a little steep for a brewery, but the food is not disappointing.

Found the staff very rude from the start at the hostess stand. Told us about an hour and a half wait. Ok, it's a beach town with not too many options on a Sunday night at 7:30. I went back to use the restrooms and found A LOT of empty dirty tables. We waited a bit and then my companion went back to use the restroom. He noticed the same thing. Noticed a few empty stools at the bar so we thought we'd have a drink. Ordered drinks and then were told abruptly by the bartender that my son (14 years old) couldn't stand there near the bar while we sat and had a drink. When I asked the bartender where he should go and she said he can wait in the lobby. No thanks, we're on a family vacation. I told her we'd be waiting out in the lobby and wouldn't be having our drinks. Meanwhile...30 minutes into the wait same tables still sitting there dirty! Decided to go wait outside and look at the ocean. Thought we'd see what else was available in town. Local surfer suggested we try the Oar House. Excellent suggestion! Cut bait and we left for that restaurant. Can't make any comment on the food. Menu wasn't special. Good location. Lousy service!

I've been here a couple of times and have had a great time either outside seating or inside at the bar and watch the games. I can still hear the waves soothing crash from inside and there's a lot of activities to watch outside like the surfers. In the far distance, there's a huge sand hill/mountain that is great people watching and drinking a beer.

This Brewery Pub has it all! Location looking out on the Dory Launch Beach. A great Beer selection. Great Food. Pretty good sized place.....We were staying across the street at an RV Park. When we had our name put on the "wait" list. Instead of the normal flasher/beeper they took our cell #. We had 10 minutes to respons when notified. THAT IS WAY COOL!! One can put your name on the list...go out on the beach, go back to your RV across the street...whatever...WHY don't more eateries going to this? We will come back to fish with Eagle Charters, Samuarai on the dunes, and spend some time on the Pub patio watching the ocean. GREAT Experience!!!

The view of the waves and the adorable staff make the truly bad food and the pretty good beer totally worth it. After we got our dinner, our waiter came by and said, "Is it edible?" and I had to laugh. Low expectations all around, and they were met!

This brewery has the perfect location, we ate here every day during our 3 day stay at the Inn across the street. We enjoyed our dinners there, the meals weren't cheap but they tasted good. We tried the breakfast buffet one day and unfortunately I can't say the same thing. The food wasn't fresh, it tasted as if it had been sitting there for hours before we arrived. We visited on the off season, so maybe the buffet would be better during the busy season when more people were eating from it, I would hope. In all we enjoyed the beer and service provided, everyone was super friendly, we'd go back for dinner again on our next visit.

We LOVE the Pelican! Awesome beer, tasty food, and great atmosphere. This trip to our favorite beach house brought us to The Pelican for Thanksgiving dinner buffet. We were very glad we got reservations the week before...it's amazing how packed this place can get. The staff was great, the food was well planned and kept very fresh. We will definitely do this again. No way we could ever prepare all the various dishes for the price. Add in a nice Silverspot IPA and we were in bliss!

I really give this place 5 starts for the staff. The food is 3 stars average, but the staff is amazing. Every time we come to this place we get lucky enough to sit at the bar with Dave the bartender. He is funny and extremely entertaining. I think he and my husband bonded immediately... its as "guy" thing I suppose. Dave can pour a great beer, but he also makes a mean Manhattan! The rest of the staff is helpful and friendly; however we keep coming back just for DAVE!

Fantastic beer! Mediocre food. The menu is overpriced and limited -- lots of fried, greasy options Portions are big and are priced accordingly. I'd rather smaller portions, personally. The children's menu is expensive too -- 6.99 for a cheeseburger, and that doesn't even include milk. I suppose transporting goods to this rather remote outpost is somewhat more expensive, so that may explain the prices. The service is good and the location by the beach can't be beat. For where it is, a pretty good option.

Our meals were AMAZING and the beers OUTSTANDING. Service was just as wonderful. A rare find of any brew pub and on the Oregon Coast. We had the Short Ribs and the Pork Chop. The beer sampler was a great way to start the meal off too. We'll be back.

Love this place. Had the rockfish sandwich for lunch with the salad. Awesome fresh blue cheese dressing on the salad. The fish was local, fresh and tasty. The Tsunami Stout beer was also great. Great service, window seat, sunshine at the coast. What more can you ask for.

Great view, food, and service on a holiday weekend. Loved the arugula and pear salad and the ahi sandwich. The beer was also a hit! A must try when you are in the mood for a day trip to the Oregon Coast.

sorry guys.......... been coming here for years and the menu currently in play (told by a waitress it had changed 3 times this summer) is not only WAY overpriced - but also didn't have anything on it that looked appetizing- went back to camp and ate leftovers - woman sitting next to us told us the best place for the best price was across the street - the view is great ........but not that great

  • Jennifer H.

This is at best 2.5 stars. My food is always cool (not cold, but certainly not hot) almost every time I eat here. There is nothing particularly satiating about anything. I should say I DON'T DRINK BEER. With that said, I can only speak to the food. I suspect after a few beers the food tastes pretty damn good, but sober.... it's just ok. I have certainly had better and I have had worse. I have had the Burger (get bacon on it), clam chowder, Clams, Turkey Sandwich and a few other things.... oh wait... the fries... the one redeeming menu item. The beer battered fries are some of the best I ever had... maybe I'll bump it up to three stars just for the fries. The thing that the Pelican has going for it is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! It is the only large restaurant in Pacific City and the only place I know where one can sit outside in the summer and let their kiddies play in the sand while the grownups eat a peaceful meal. That being said, I will be back, because I love Pacific city, and well a girls gotta eat. The food is fine, (yes, just fine) and when there is nowhere else to eat than fine will do.

  • Dave K.

Good beer, better than average chowder, and very salty clams and sausage. Service was very friendly, Caitlyn was very sweet and attentive. Recommend the beer sampler at only $7 to pick your favorite. We aren't hop heads, but even enjoyed the pale ales. Wife even liked the very drinkable Tsunami Stout. Best part is the great beach side view and endless sandbox for the kid to play.

  • Mark R.

You're going to get a good IPA. Not a great one. A solid one....you'll probably like it. But, it's not in the same league as some of the others. The food is good, not great but solid and you won't be disappointed. Nothing can beat the view! Awesome!

  • Courtney A.

I was surprised they didn't have a bigger menu. Most of the items seemed over priced with the exception of the pizzas - while they say single serving, there is plenty for two. The house root beer was very good along with the BBQ chicken pizza and Cobb salad. Service was spotty. We were seated immediately, but had decided on our orders before someone even took our drink orders. If I were in the area again, I'd try someplace else.

  • Jen L.

Great spot! The location can't be beat, it's directly on the beach. The beer is fabulous. The service is decent. The food is overpriced for it's quality, but not terrible.

Favorite place to get a burger and relax in the outside eating area. Best gourmet burger's I've ever had.

  • Nic Z.

We stopped here for lunch before hitting the sand and had a great experience. All of us enjoyed our food, which ranged from fish tacos to turkey burgers and beyond. They also have a healthy selection of beer and wine. I actually had to snap a picture of the lists so I would remember to try some after our visit. Great portion sizes, beautiful view. Can't be beat at that location!

  • Krisna S.

Decent, but overpriced. My fiance and I stayed at the hotel across the street, which owns the restaurant. The hotel is awesome, phenomenal service and their staff is so friendly. The restaurants staff was friendly also, but that's about the end of any pleasant experience there. The seafood tasted fresh but you would expect nothing less from a coastal restaurant. Their clam chowder was actually pretty good. We ordered the calamari and clams. Both were fairly awful. Lastly, we ordered a pizza which was okay. I think it was only okay because it contrasted the gross calamari and steamer clams. And last but not least, it's incredibly overpriced. They're taking advantage of the fact that they're one of very few restaurants in the immediate area. I will be back to stay at the Inn at cape kiwanda, but I won't be eating at the brewery.

Good beer, lovely view, and very friendly staff. Definitely a good lunch spot when they're not super busy. Would recommend.

  • Trish L.

The beer is awesome ! The burger , clam chowder and chili are good. The $21 rockfish dinner was awful so dry and flavorless and no crab to be spotted as promised on the menu. I should have sent it back. And the only reason I got the rockfish was because they were out of every other seafood on the menu Would only go back for the beer to go

  • Amy L.

Beer is ok, I tried the sampler. Nothing really stood out to me. Food is your average pub food. I agree with the vegan reviewer, not much veggie options that were tasty. Very ambient there, decor is nice and servers were very helpful in suggestions.

  • Rob S.

Great location (outside on a nice day). Inside is a bit loud with poor traffic flow. Service and staff are awesome. Food is very good for the price in a vacation town. The beer is very good but flat (no head on it). I tried several and they're all the same.

This.is our 2 time here, and if this was the way we were treated, we wouldn't of come back. Took us over 3 hrs to get served. The calamari was terrible. Far be it that the computers went down 1 hrs after we arrived, it went downhill from there. Awful service.

Excellent customer service, but the food is only so-so. We had two meals - lunch and breakfast the next day. I had their oyster po' boy. While the oysters themselves were tasty, they were overbreaded and a bit soggy. They came on a poor boy roll topped with slaw, but the oysters (and the breading) were so large, there was no way to actually eat this as a sandwich. Good idea, but poor execution. My wife's burger on the other hand was excellent - great flavor and cooked to perfection. The Breakfast buffet was disappointing. The scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked, as were the pancakes. There was a nice selection of fresh fruit, but we had to pay $2.50 each for a cup of coffee and tea - seems that this should be included in price of buffet. The muffins and scones were pretty good, but more variety of pastries would be an improvement. On the whole, I give Pelican high marks for their beer and customer service, but the food needs some work.

  • Katie C.

The beer, atmosphere and view were all great. Food service was quick, even though the place was packed - though, neither of us were very impressed with our overpriced meal. The one mixed drink ordered was terrible, and it was removed from the bill without hassle. I'll say again, the beer was great - if you don't mind waiting 25 minutes between refills.

  • Holly D.

Amazing view! Food was ok. We had clam chowder and a tower of onion rings. The rings could have used a little more onion. My chowder had a little sand grit in it. Others in my party loved the beer (which they have actually won awards for). I would go there again, if only for the beach in front of the restaurant.

  • Ella O.

Food was okay, nothing exceptional and it was over priced. Took an hour and a half to get seated when the hostess said it would take 20min. Then it took 40 minutes for a waiter to even come over and ask us what we want to drink. After we finally ordered it took another hour and a half to receive food. All in all a huge waste of time. Awful service. Not coming back.

Great location. Great service. Great menu. Families on a budget beware: two kids mac and cheeses, one fish-n-chips w/cup of chowder, one taco burrito w/cup of chowder and four beverages was a little over $70. Add tip and it was $84 for lunch! No appetizers or desserts. Would come here again but w/o the kids ;)

Apparently if you cheer during a world cup soccer game they turn the tv off, because it is a "family restaurant." The pizza place across the way is full of families all cheering for the USA! I've been here dozens of times, but the poor treatment of patrons today has changed my mind about patronizing this establishment in the future. There are other places to eat fried onion rings or mediocre seafood brought in from Alaska!

We had a wonderful meal here mid-day July 14, 2014. This location is amazing. The food and service could not have been better, despite them being incredibly busy. Our waitress was personable and efficient. She handled our large group easily and was right on the ball with extra napkins, refilling drinks, etc. -- the kind of stuff that gets missed when a restaurant is hopping. We had fried calamari and crab fritters to start. I am always suspicious of fried food at restaurants because it's so easy to do it wrong. Well, they didn't. The crab fritters were light and airy, perfectly fried, with fresh corn and lots of crab. The calamari was crispy and well seasoned. Everything came out very hot. Based on the appetizers, I ordered an oyster po'boy as a meal. The oysters were absolutely huge, with fat bellies. The batter was perfect and the oysters were perfectly fried. Even the coleslaw was well above average. The bread wasn't anything to write home about, but I only expect awesome po'boy bread in New Orleans. The clam chowder and pizzas got high praise from our picky group. The beer selection made our entire table happy, especially since they offer flights. Some reviews have complained about the prices, but we didn't think they were out of line for the location and for the quality.

  • GJ W.

Way over priced; clam chowder very salty; ordered the blackened fish tacos - skimpy on the pieces of fish, avocado, and slaw; the only thing in abundance was the white rice. Upside - we had a great waitress

  • Dusten A.

The location is good. I was told it would be an hour wait, 1:45 later we were seated. The food is good, but the menu is small. Prices are reasonable. The manager made every effort to right the wrong involving the extended wait time

So delicious! We loved everything so much we came back again the next night. I recommend the pizza and sea food. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Nice view of the ocean, especially during a sunset. Great place!

Agree with other Yelpers that the prices at the Pelican are a bit high. But when you have the only restaurant that is directly on the beach, you can charge a buck or two more per plate. Place was packed as it was absolutely perfect weather yesterday, but Pelican was well staffed and we had no issues with waiting for our server. I had the sausage calzone (with artichoke, spinach, cheese, etc) and wife had the fish tacos. Both plates were very good and I could have made two meals out of the calzone if I wanted to carry the rest home. Ankle Buster for me, Summer Ale for my wife.....mighty tasty!! We only make it down to visit the area very couple of years, but Pelican is always on our list for lunch!!

The new way they serve breakfast is horrible. Won't be back. Basically it's a hotel continental breakfast, but not as good. Very disappointed and a step down for this place. I will move my dollars to the small shops from now on. Not sure why they switch, it used to be respectable.

Came here on Father's Day last year because it was right on the beach that my dad wanted to go to. We expected it would be crowded. About a 45 minute wait until we were seated. Then another 20 until someone came with menus. We ordered onion rings but they didn't even come until after we got our bill. It was about 30 minutes until we got our good after ordering, so that was decent. Beer was great. Food was okay, not as good as I expected for what we payed. It wasn't until after our meal that we learned they decided to train a server (our server) on one of the busiest days of the year. 5 stars for beer, 3 for food, 2 for service and 1 for manager's intelligence.

So disappointing. We found Pelican Brewing on a friend's recommendation in Tacoma, Wa. Bought a case of the IPA. Loved it! On a trip to Oregon, we had to go out of our way to see the brewery we loved. The scenery is beautiful. The staff made us feel like we were the worst people on earth. We sat at the bar wih football on the TV's, waiting for the Hawks game to start. There was a great play, we cheered out of spontaneous exciement! We were chastized. "You need to keep it down!" From then on, for the last half of our beers, the staff treated us terribly. We planned on watching the Hawks game, having some beers and eating lunch. We left before the game started, after one beer, with such a horrible feeling about the place I don't see us drinking their beer again. Incredibly disappointing. Take the TV's out and don't show football if you don't want people getting excited. We have never been made to feel so shamed in public in our lives.

Expensive place for lunch. Food was pretty much pub grub and nothing special. Service was terrible. The lady that served our water spilled a glass of water all over my niece's baby walker and didn't bother to come back and clean it up. Then the waitress didn't really improve the situation by being rude and ignoring us most of the time. Seems like a good place to have a few beers with friends. This place is great only because of the location. I doubt if I'll go back there except to use the bathroom.

  • Dan H.

This place is kind of a tourist trap. $12 for a burger? Really? I guess you really don't come here for the food. Not that the food was bad mind you, but you come here for the beer. That is why we came here. I had the Doryman's Dark Ale. Here is how they describe it: Our American Brown Ale has a dark brown color, with a balanced aroma of roasted malts and Northwest-grown hops. The sweetness of the ale and crystal malts blend beautifully with the assertive flavors of Cascade and Mt. Hood hops. A brew to be savored. Savor it, I did. I love leaving Portland and checking out some of the breweries around this fine state. Another good beer in a beautiful location. Come here to drink. You can take or leave the food.

Very good beer. Nice selection, including a Scottish Ale. My favorite was their IPA. Food was good to very good. Worth a stop.

Good beer, okay food, high prices, under-trained staff, poor policies. Wanna sell me a $17 burger? Don't ding me an extra dollar for mayo, especially when the catsup, mustard, and malt vinegar all come out for free. Also, know what goes on that burger. Also, know your own policies. Also, have a clear policy to begin with. The good: We didn't have to wait long to be seated, even on a lovely Sunday evening on Father's Day. We had always wanted to see the location. Views are lovely, plenty of parking was available. The beer is pretty good, I'm not much of snob but it seemed alright to me. The bad: High prices. $16.95 for the special, a burger with a stuffed patty. It showed up with a dry bun. No garnish, no sauces &c. on the burger, just the patty and two buns. Now they wanted to charge me extra for certain condiments. Slow drinks orders: I had to ask for my first beer a second time. The taps were five feet away from our table, but it took ten minutes longer than the other diner's drink, which came out much faster. C'mon, it's a brewpub. Confused service: The waitress asked me what kind of cheese I wanted, only to come back later and say that cheese would cost extra, since it was stuffed. I never would have asked for cheese, except that she mentioned it. Cancel the cheese. Yet more confused service: We usually order a side of mayo with our fries or tots. The waitress told us that it would be one dollar extra for each of us. I've never been charged extra for a basic condiment before. What's worse, they bring out ketchup, mustard, and malt vinegar without having to ask. But mayo is an extra buck each? That's crazy - especially when you charge SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for a medium-sized burger on a dry bun. Later, another waitress said that mayo is always free, and offered to bring us some. Then it turns out she was mistaken, too. When we finally landed the manager, she said the rules about condiments are so complicated that she herself DOES NOT KNOW whether we should have been charged for mayo (!). She did agree to take the extra junk charges off of our bill, though. I wouldn't have payed more than $11 or $12 for this burger in town. It's just so silly that three staff - including the manager - couldn't agree on what our bill was. To be clear, I think this is a systemic training issue, and not a knock on any one staff member. Wanna charge me $17 for a burger? Better know what goes on it, it should have some (any) garnish, and don't get officious about a small side of mayo. Also, these sorts of ticky-tack policies need to be made crystal-clear on the menu, before I ever order. If it's too complicated to print there, then maybe you should simplify it first. The manager was new, and I could tell she was trying to help. I love quirky and down-home places; but It felt like we were stuck in a tourist trap. This place is now owned by a resort conglomerate, and it shows. I can get good beer elsewhere -- we won't be back. Very disappointed.

What a view! The food here was beyond amazing and greatly portioned for the cost! The beer was unlike anything I have ever had and I was very pleased with it! We had a wonderful time here on our vacation. The only downfall of this amazing place is the service pirtculary the hostesses, they were so rude and un-welcoming that we almost left and choose somewhere else to eat, however I am really glad we didn't the food was the highlight of our vacation! We will defenatly be back.

I've been here quite a few times on my way to some favorite hikes on the coast. One thing is certain, the view and location is fantastic. Stop by just to see Haystack rock and have a beer if nothing else. The food is decent, I have no complaints. Summertime (or any day the sun decides to shine), this place will be packed, plan accordingly. The beer is tasty. Not my favorite of all time, but still a solid brewery. It also stocks a full bar. Prices.. in this category they receive an epic fail. Took some friends from out of town here to show off the coast. We ordered three shots of Herra Dura. $30. I shit you not.. For three shots, of a tequila that costs $30 a freaking bottle. Six dollars a pint, more if you want their special IPA they charge extra, because it comes with extra hops... They used to be dog friendly as well on the patio. Now if you want to bring your best friend on four legs, you'd better make sure those paws are in the sand, at the edge of the patio. Canines are persona non grata. (OKAY, Canis non grata for the latin nazi reading this) +4 stars for the location and view. +3 stars for the food and drinks. -5 stars for the craptastic prices.

Unique Place in Pacific City know for Very Smooth Beer and Tasty food in part of the Oregon Cost that was once know for bland/vanilla cuisine. Location has a great view of the Ocean and access to beach. Service is Very Good with lots of staff making sure you needs are met. I feel their Brews are Smooth and I like beer with bit more flavor kick not just OH content. I bought a hat during my visit we really does make me a fan, and I have received lots of reactions from people when i worn the hat at other Brews Pups including a Server at Pup in Vancouver saying she want to get married* there. *PS to Staff at the Pelican Bay Pup you must of had a great staff party in March base on the numbers of servers that are currently with child, glad to see your business has grown over the years because you are going to have to more mouths to feed.

Some of the beer is quite good. Some of it is really ho hum. Food choices are ok but nothing that I would go back for. This place could use some inspiration in the kitchen. Nothing really yummy that I can remember.

Just okay. There aren't many places to eat in PC, but this one is really popular because it is ON the beach. They have a great fireplace outside, and let's be honest, they are a brewery, so their beer is really good. In fact, they have one of the best IPAs I've ever had. The food was really not worth the price, though. As far as dinner goes, it's not bad. I had mussels and clams in a garlic sauce. Thank goodness I wasn't on a date because that was way too much garlic for one plate. I'm not sure I would go back, unless I felt like paying $26 for cioppino...

Beer is great! Good variety, well-executed styles. However, the food was overpriced. It wasn't bad, but it definitely did not warrant the high prices. Fish and chips were small portion for around $15. If they had been truly excellent, I wouldn't have complained, but they were standard. A good place to go if you're ready to spend and in Pacific City anyway. If you just want a couple of beers, then it's well worth your while.

I go here for the stellar view and the amazing patio. I can sit out on that patio all day long and drink beer and watch the action. I used to go to this beach WAAAAAYYYY before any of the commercial crap was built all around it. Loved to watch the dorys come in from fishing, hiking the dune and watching the hang gliders glide off the other side of the dune. Then came The Pelican. The Pelican used to be better. It was more quaint, fewer people and some good solid food option. Why the heck they got rid of the assiago encrusted vegetarian sandwich is beyond me. It was the best thing on the menu! Now the prices have gone up, it is always too crowded, they don't take reservations for outdoor tables, even for a large party and the staff sometimes has attitude. $15 for cod fish and chips? Jeez. For halibut? Yes. Cod? No. And for a brewery to charge an extra $1.25 more for an IPA because it uses more hops is ridiculous! Do the math. There are 120 pints in a keg. They are basically getting an extra $150 per keg of beer served and I sure as hell am not buying that it takes even an extra $50 of hops to make an IPA. That is just a stick in my craw! Are you reading this, management? Ri-DICK-u-lous! Go there for the view after eating elsewhere and stick to a beer that isn't an IPA.

Real talk: I'm not a big brew-pub fan and I find the Pelican's beer & food to be well, pretty typical for a touristy brewery (good but fairly traditional & a little over priced). That said, I will always stop in for a pint & will sometimes stay for dinner thanks to the hot outdoor shower they freely offer on the south side of the building. That shower (and their hospitality) make winter surfing SO much more enjoyable. Along with Pacific City's super easy beach access, the Pelican's shower makes foul weather surfing approachable and will certainly keep me coming back!

Nice Scottish Ale. Salmon fish and chips are good. Vegetable hash for breakfast was also. But.... We were given lunch menus by a deer eyed reception crew at 645pm. Gourmet pizza dough was soggy, likely the product of an overworked kitchen or an under heated pizza oven. Seems there is at least one good waitress attempting to be everything to everyone but don't be in a hurry as she is busy. I liked the attempt but 3 stars is the best I can do on food, price and service. Sorry

We were pleasantly surprised with a fantastic meal. My partner ordered the crab bisque and it was to die for. It was loaded with fresh dungeness crab and made to order. I had the clam chowder - recommend!! - and a fresh salad with crispy oysters. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was on the slow side, but not too slow. The head chef, or owner, not sure who it was, checked on our meal, which I sensed he really cared about. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience in a quaint location.

Bang on stellar views and excellent, award winning microbrew. I'm floored by the low ratings by other Yelpers, but maybe you Oregonians are used to these jaw dropping views of your glorious coast, and the pristine sand dunes nearby. As your neighbors to the North, we are simply in awe of Pacific City's staggering view of Haystack Rock from Pelican Pub (on what turned out to be an uncharacteristically sunny day in April, lucky us!) and what we consider to be some of the better microbrewed beer we've had on the Oregon Coast during our visit. Standouts include Saison Du Pelican and India Pelican Ale, the Pelican's IPA. Food is as reported, just so-so, but this place is all about the view (and the beer) so after seeing the other reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. We played it safe (considering ourselves forewarned by all the 1 and 2 star Yelp Reviews) and ordered a solid Caesar Salad with Bay Shrimp, which turned out to be a respectable Caesar, with a lighter dressing rather than the overly creamy stuff we typically can't stand. The shrimp were small, sweet and fresh. We split an individual sized meat pizza, which was small but fine for our appetites. Nothing fantastic about the pizza, though. We enjoyed our meal, and the beer was excellent, particularly the Saison Du Pelican, a dry delicious Belgian. The service experience was helpful and friendly, with suggestions being offered up for other brewpubs once we mentioned how much we appreciated the Saison. A hall full of trophies and medals dedicated to their beer is proof that beer-wise, they make a darned good product. The view at sunset with surfers riding the shoreline, was phenomenal. The only way this could be better, in my opinion, is if the food here were exceptional. But honestly, then it might be perfect, and that just may be asking too much.

World class beers, great customer service, good food. The food here is well executed, but the selection of items feels small. If you have any dietary restrictions, it automatically seems to narrow your choices down to one or two items, which may not be the ones you find the most delicious. You can't go wrong with anything fried, however that's probably not good news for the health conscious. The salads are good, and the bay shrimp martini is a great light option. The pizzas are thick and doughy, which is delicious. Consider making your own if the pre-made options don't suit you. Be prepared for a wait. The good news is that they'll text you when your table is available, leaving you to enjoy the view or hang out in the sand a bit while you wait. Definitely worth coming back to.

We went here today. The view is amazing right on the beach. The calamari was delicious and I had the oysters as a meal. The customer service was great and it is the best place to eat in Pacific City. It is also very convenient to grab food and play on the beach. Our waiter was extremely nice and helpful with suggestions. We are going back to camp in the near future.

This is a great restaurant where you can enjoy beautiful views of sunsets while eating along the ocean. Not only that, you get the privilege of trying their unique beers that they brew there. If you're staying at the Inn across the street, they give you a special menu to here with dishes that you cannot find on the normal menu. On top of that, the food is absolutely amazing.

I love everything about this pub/restaurant and if I knew what sound a pelican makes, I'd make it - to establish my sincerity. We used to rent a beach house down the road, so this was where we chose to eat at least one meal a day. I order anything that comes with the fries...which gives me a lot of options! Their non lo-cal food can be guilt-free, if you opt to climb the sand dunes nearby, after your meal. Not only is the food good (typical bar fare) but they are located in a primo spot on the beach; perfect for watching the surfers, kite-flyers, kayakers and vacationers playing volleyball. The rustic decor fits right in with the beach and dunes surrounding it and the outdoor seating is the bomb, if you can get a table on our rare sunny-but-not-too-windy days. Parking is free and the prices are decent. Those are 2 big pluses. All-in-all, the restaurant has something for everyone. It's family friendly, has a great view, isn't too hard on the wallet, has a good selection of fresh seafood and non-seafood items and some really good libations. I'll be back...aqain and again.

The wait...oh the wait. Hostesses on multiple occasions has quoted 20-30 minutes to turn out to be an hour. The place is huge, but understaffed and don't seat all their tables. Also, people just sit outside without checking into the hostess, so the wait just gets worse. Beer good, not great. Food ok, not good. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the GOOD places next door (BJ's tacos or Doryman Pizza) and maximize your beach time.

Excellent beers, marginal and overpriced food. My husband had linguine and clams for dinner and I had the blackened salmon spinach salad. Linguine was overcooked, clams were dry, spinach was lacking and the dish was overpowered by sun dried tomatoes. The salmon on my salad was tiny, dry, and very fishy. It was not really blackened just slightly seasoned. The spinach and feta were very good. The beer-a-misu was unremarkable. All in all this was a disappointing dinner; but the beer selection was tasty. Come here for the beer, don't stay for the food.

We shared the Alaskan Cod fish-n-chips and Fried Oyster Po' Boy. Mmm mmm good. The fries were good but the salad with vinaigrette dressing was great! ...especially with the rich entrèes. The menu has great beer pairing recommendations, but because we had just spent the day on the hot sunny beach we had "The Governor" pale ale, which was quite refreshing, especially as we sat on the patio and enjoyed the amazing ocean view. The wait staff and hostess were very friendly! In fact, we mentioned that we were sharing and they split the plates for us.

I have been coming to Pelican Pub since I've been coming to Pacific City c.1995. It is my favorite eating establishment in town (even though there are only a handful)! The service is always genuine and friendly, the location is supremely gorgeous, and the food is quite good. I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband is, and he loves their brew. I stick to a glass of wine :) Their food is a notch above the usual pub fare, and you cannot go wrong if you stick with seafood which, given their location, is always fresh. My favorite new entrée this summer has been the oysters, which are coated with sesame seeds and pan-fried, and served with rice and some kind of seaweed mango chutney. I know it sounds odd, and when it arrived it looked a little odd, but one taste and I was sold. Their fish & chips is classic, the pizza is amazing, and their salads are huge and delicious. Recently we tried their breakfast, and it was very reasonable and quite tasty, with a much more varied and interesting menu than I would have thought. We always have our kids with us there, and they love it, too; they get Goldfish and coloring materials, and the kid menu is pretty good. They are so accommodating and helpful with families. Last week we happened to have several friends in the area, and I called ahead for a noon seating for 21 people (8 adults, 13 kids). Upon arrival our table was ready and exactly where I had requested--in the Haystack room next to the beach, with a view of the rock and sand right outside. Needless to say we had a most excellent time, and kudos to our amazing server who was beyond patient and awesome. Yay, Pelican Pub!

We had lunch here today. Although we were seated fairly quickly, the service was extremely sub par. It took over 20 minutes to have water come to table, an additional 20 minutes for anyone to take our order. Drinks showed up 20 minutes later. Parties that were seated after us were now finishing their meals. Our food finally showed up, but our birthday gal, the whole reason for us to dine at the Pelican, her order was incorrect. We waited and watched our food become cold in front of us as we waited for her lunch. When it did arrive, it was inedible. The assistant manager, Nicole N., removed the drinks from our check and gave a pathetic, half hearted apology. It was a waste of time and money. We won't be back.

This is a place that is certainly worth experiencing - once. The first time we came here, the beer was tasty and I had the most delicious (though expensive) Rockfish & Chips. We couldn't wait to come back! Next time? Not on the menu. So I got something else. This time? That's not even on the menu. So frustrating! For the exorbitant pricing and ridiculous waiting times (especially when it seems like the restaurant is half empty!), skip dining in and get a growler to go. Then hit up BJ's for awesome burgers and tacos. Your wallet (and sanity) will thank you!

I cannot attest to the beer quality as I was on painkillers for a sprained ankle and couldn't drink. BUT this was my husband's one thing he wanted to do on vacation, and he was extremely pleased with his beer. He also bought beer to go-another very good sign. I got the crab roll with salad. Yum. Lotsa crab (not mayo-y at all) and cream ale soaked cranberries on the salad. Hubby liked his burger but wishes he would have gotten seafood (when you're literally on the beach...). Kiddo loved his Mac and cheese. All in all a great experience. Server was delightful. Scenery was top notch. Food was a little slow in coming...so was the beer. Hostess could use a little friendliness training and it took waaay too long to purchase the post-meal beer at the front.

Great location... sit back and enjoy the view... Rating based on location and view! The beer was a let down! I am from out of town and I love dark, rich stouts and was very disappointed with the Pelican Stout...I bought the beer at the tent outside of the restaurant. You are allowed to drink on the beach, however the downside is they are NOT allowed to open your beer, nor will they loan you an opener... YET, they will sell you one! Bad practice... good think we have "experience" at opening with a key or lighter! The food looked great all around... worth dropping in...

The husband assures me that the many beers made here are all very good. Most of the food is pretty good for tourist-town food, but it's not a stunning gourmet experience. The clam chowder is a delicious bet.

Manhattan prices for Pacific City! When this place opened back in the 90's (where the Hood To Coast used to end in the first few years) it had decent prices. Since then they have up-scaled their prices to match the great view. I think they have manifestly succeeded. I have been given to understand that they now avoid posting prices on their website. I don't blame 'em! On occasion they manage a decent beer, but they really never go past decent. Frankly, with the deadly bland Caesar salad (too high priced by far!) and other similarly goofy prices for food ... well ... I will say this, if they ever do an IPO (they can't manage a good IPA), I'll buy stock. They've fooled enough people into paying exorbitantly for their product to make the stock a winner. It's a nifty view from the restaurant, but brother you WILL pay for the view. ***I thought this over. Call it "rating remorse" I guess. Or, maybe it was holiday cheer misplaced. But here it is December 27th, and while 1 star may be harsh, this place isn't remotely close to the 2 stars I previously placed. 1.27 stars. Yeah, that's about right.

I am from Portland, and don't get sticker shock from 6 dollar beer (if it is damn good), 15 dollar fish and chips, or 25 minute waits to get into restaurants. The Pelican Pub delivered good food at prices I could afford with a view no other establishment on earth can provide. Food: The calamari was the tenderest I have ever enjoyed, and the accompanying aioli was tasty. The house burger is top rate, and the house salad was fresh and appetizing. Beers: tsunami stout, their cream ale, their Scottish ale, and Silverspot IPA are all standouts. Service: pleasant, professional, fine for the beach

Just rating Pelican as a brewery, they are an easy five stars.Their beer is deserving of all those medals they have. Darren is one of my favorite Oregon brewers. Doryman's Dark is probably a favorite, as is the India Pelican Ale (not too hoppy!) and Kiwanda Cream ale. Then you get into the seasonals-Full House brown ale, Surfer's summer ale which are delicious. Their Brun and Saison rank among my favorites of that style. And don't get me started on Mother of All Storms, the barleywine. Scratch that, I can't pick a favorite here. And really you should be able to please every beer drinker in your group with the offerings here. So glad they upped their distribution in Portland also. So why 3 stars? I feel like this place has declined in service over the years and when you are paying premium prices, you should be getting premium service to go with it. I can't fault them that there is always a wait and the front waiting room gets a little crazy, but I can fault them with how they handle it, which is usually poorly. The younger females working there are just plain rude. The typical waiting room experience for us has been being told one wait time by a manager and a much longer one by one of the girls, they have "forgotten" to give us buzzers and we are more often than not, just plain forgotten. I don't know if this is because there are usually just two of us and they are focusing on clearing the large groups out of the waiting room or not. Once the waiting room obstacle is hurdled, the food is usually pretty good, typical pub food with a stunning view of the beach. The waitstaff service has been average, never great, but definitely better than up front. The in house prices for the beer are pretty inflated considering what you pay for the bottle in waiting room is much lower. This never made much sense as I would consider the cost to bottle the beer much higher than simply the draft from the keg. Go figure. Their beer dinners are exceptional and that's when you get the best chance to see what the chef can do. I'd recommend, but book well in advance and definitely make arrangements to stay the night in Pacific City. This coming from someone who has had many a drunken totter across the street back to our hotel after one of those great dinners. If you are staying in town and with a group, this is one of the few options to eat, so it's probably worth the wait, especially if you haven't had a chance to try their beer. It's definitely worth it to snag an outdoor seat on a nice day. Otherwise, I recommend grabbing a bottle from the cooler or a growler to go and finding somewhere with cheaper prices and friendlier service.

I have some comfortable memories of the Pelican. From the moment we walked in to the dark, cozy pub and were seated in the back by the window, my spirits felt lifted. Our server was genuinely friendly, talking with her customers instead of just making small talk. The food was tasty, and the beer was good. I appreciate a brewpub that thinks about the food as well as the beer. It's probably not so idyllic on busy weekends, but on a quiet Sunday evening before the summer rush hit, it was one of those special little places worth going back to.

Way overpriced for a brew pub, and overall just an odd experience. However if I can pass along one thing before you say "too long/didn't read" it is this: blue cheese vinigarette. Get a house salad, which is greens, dried cranberries, and almond slivers, and be sure to get this insanely good dressing. Don't bother with anything else. Okay, now that that's out of the way: the wait for a table for 2 at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon was 30 minutes. Okay, no problem, the weather is gorgeous so it's a busy place. Once seated (after much confusion -- what name is your party under? How many people again?), we saw about 30 open chairs in the large room we finally sat in. I'm not sure why the wait, unless that room had just been opened up....but that wouldn't explain the table that sat unbussed next to us through our whole meal, or the absolutely filthy floor. The food was pretty good though. BF's cheeseburger was good, he said, though he called the fries "different" and I know to his rather picky tastes that is not a good thing. The baked potato and salad lunch was good, though the potato was clearly reheated and not warm enough. The salad was SO good though! Go back and re-read that first paragraph. I am rather not a salad person but it was delish. Didn't even try the beer. I'm not a big beer drinker and the BF is a man of.... ahem, simpler tastes (read: Anheuser Busch). The service was a little odd too. Our server was friendly and chatty in that talking-at-us way, taking several passes by the table (water........ then drinks........ then finally taking our order...... ) The weird part was that when our food was served he came by once, never slowing his pace or even looking at us --- muttered quietly "everything good here? okay...." and kept going like he was crossing it off of his mental checklist, nothing more. Okay, if you have read this far, your reward is this tip: the salad dressing is made by the Riverhouse restaurant in Pacific City (so you may want to go there instead though I can't vouch for it), and is available in the refrigerated produce section at local grocery stores on the coast and in the Portland area such as New Seasons, where I bought a bottle today. The Riverhouse's website says Safeway, Albertsons, and Fred Meyer too. Get yourself some craisins, slivered almonds, and baby greens and save the hassle and confusion of Pelican.

I love this place! It is always crowded but service is still awesome! Kind of spendy if you take the whole Fam but to sit on the deck and have a beer is priceless. The food is great and a very friendly staff.

I really enjoyed the food, the location, the waitstaff and of course the beer. Fantastic spot for dinner with the Pacific Ocean as your view. The clam linguine was fantastic. Would defiantly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely loved this spot coming late one evening on vacation. This is got to be the best view of any brewery in the country--and if you know of a better one, I want to go! The food here was very tasty, from the rich clam chowder to the lightly-spiced oyster Po' Boy that I had. But what really stood out on our visit was the exceptionally high quality of service. The servers were so kind and attentive, that the overall experience was taken up another notch. Huge kudos to The Pelican. I only wish it were in a more convenient location so it would be easier to frequent. But the location is what makes it special!

This placed dropped stars like the United States during the Civil War. I didn't walk in here thinking "hmmm, this is a two-star place." I thought "what a beautiful day on the coast (believe me, it was - I have pictures as proof - it was sunny when the valley was all wet), and what a beautiful looking restaurant. I would very much like to enjoy food and/or beverage at this fine looking, 5-star, establishment." Then we were greeted. Well, not so much greeted, more acknowledged in a way that said "oh you're the person I agreed to meet online and now I'm having second thoughts about it. Would you like to sit in the bar? That way we don't have to talk because it will be loud and we will be able to get out faster, too." It only got worse. Actually, at that point, no stars were lost. Betsy would have been proud (can you tell that I'm proud of my opener in this review? I'm trying to remind you of it). Apparently the management here is awkward, because it seemed to be the overall theme. This time it was a different type of awkward and this is where the first star was dropped. She greeted us by saying "Where are you visiting from?" While that might seem friendly in the right context, it seemed more like a blatant "you're a tourist and while I don't realize I wouldn't make any money without you, I still don't want you here." Well, it didn't seem quite like that until she reinforced it with a "it sure is nice to see locals in here" to the next table when they sat down. Again, just weird all around. Star number two was lost when I took a look at the menu. The prices were absolutely ridiculous for this type of place. $16.99 for fish and chips (not the fresh kind - see below). I just figured they'd be amazing, so whatever, but I did feel like they were trying to gouge the tourists. There was absolutely no excuse for us to spend $48 on two fish and chips meals, one Diet Coke and a beer. Then the last star was lost when I actually tried the food. The fish was fine, but honestly I've had better fish from a bag at the store that I cook in my oven myself. I noticed how frozen-thawed it tasted, which I don't very often notice. The fish had that watery feel about it and was really, really bland. The only thing saving the last star from crashing to the ground was the fries. The fries were actually excellent, but not enough to save an overall experience at this place. It was nice to see some life in Pacific City, but I think they could do better. Next time, we'll try one of the other restaurants that looked good in town. I'm excited to go back to Pacific City, as it was much better than I remember, but I won't be returning here.

I've been by here many times but I've never had the time to stop. Today we decided to take a day trip over to have lunch at the Pelican. We got in and got seated right away by the window near the back of the restaurant. Great view of the ocean. We got water and menus and then we just sat there. My guy was ready to leave, however, starving, I decided to go up to the bar. All this time we were sitting there several staff members (seven) walked by us and would not make eye contact (I sniffed myself to make sure I didn't smell). I went up to the bar and asked the bartender if someone could take our order. He quickly got our server and had him come over. Kiefer, our server, was top drawer and immediately took care of us. The food was great. I had a soup and salad and my guy had a seafood pizza. He also tried a new beer that they made right there at the Pelican. We had a rough start but they definitely made up for it. I'll be back again.

In the five or so years since we've been coming to Pacific City, we've seen the prices at our beloved Pelican Pub go up, while the quality and selection of the food have gone down. We typically come to PC three or four times a year (two of those visits are our annual weeklong vacations, one in February and one in July, so we've visited on- and off-season), and Pelican Pub was always mandatory for at least one meal. We started noticing the decline a couple of years ago. Fish & chips were soggy and greasy, salads were more and more skimpy. Drinks (other than the fantastic brews) were watery. Favorites disappeared from the menu, replaced with pretentious items to match rising prices. Fresh grilled fish without sauces or breading - good luck; last I checked, pan-seared cod was the only non-sauce, non-breaded fish on the menu, and there's no indicator of freshness. I will say that their clam chowder is quite good. We had a battle of the chowder with family this weekend, pitting Doryland pizza chowder against Pelican Pub chowder (and previous recollections of Mo's clam paste - um, I mean chowder), and PP won - but not by much. I made my own chowder the next evening and family agreed that my recipe was better than PP's. I was using canned clams and red potatoes, so I'm wondering about PP ingredients. Everyone raves about the view and it is, indeed, fantastic. And yes, we Oregonians are spoiled by this amazing beach. Let me give you a little hint: you don't have to drop a fifty at the restaurant to enjoy the view. What we usually do is go in before the lunch or dinner crowd, ask for a patio table, and order our favorite brews (Kiwanda Cream Ale is unbeatable!) and an appetizer or salads. We enjoy the view, the brew, and a lighter bill. Afterward, we may go over to BJs (catty-corner on the main road) for fish & chips, or just order some more appetizers that are not only lighter on the wallet, but yummier than the standard fare. We like the hummus plate, seafood quesadilla and the steamed clams & mussels - but keep in mind that Pelican appetizer prices are closer to most restaurants' entree prices. A few other things - be prepared for a wait, especially at peak times. Service can be spotty, especially with new staff. If you just want some good brew, they sell it cold from the fridge in the lobby/gift shop, with a discount (and free bag) if you buy 6 or more. Pelican brews used to only be available at the pub, but many are now in some PDX stores (Albertsons, New Seasons, etc.) if you can't get to the beach.

My husband and I absolutely loved this restaurant! The beer pancakes and India Pelican Ale were such a perfect breakfast. :) I usually order something savory like an omelette but so glad I decided to try the beer pancakes (made with their Scottish Ale), served with beer blackberry syrup and hazelnut butter. I highly recommend trying it. The potatoes in his corned beef hash actually was undercooked, and we had to ask the server to re-cook the dish. The server girl was extremely nice about it, and kept offering more coffee etc. That made our experience even better. We are itching to go back to Pelican brewery!

Hmmm, I've heard a lot about this place, so was expecting a lot. Great marketing. Our server was pleasant, we were seated at the "view of the kitchen, with slamming dishes" table, but asked to be moved across to a quieter booth and she did not argue. We had salads, and shared the salmon entree. The food was average, nothing more. For breakfast, i ordered "out", as we were staying accross the road at the Inn. I know takeout is a little tougher, so, I'm keeping that in mind. The salmon benedict was smoked heavily, and was overpowering for breakfast. The chicken fried steak was very overcooked, with 1/3 the amount of gravy that it should have. All in all, just a regular place that isn't bad, but has been hyped as something special.

Delicious food and beer! I recommend the Kiwanda Cream Ale, although I like my beer on the lighter side, usually picking a hef as my choice. The taster tray is also great so you can try many different beers before you make your choice. We also loved the Dungeness Crab Roll (yum, they go light on the mayo to let you enjoy the flavor of the crab!), Clam Chowder, and Famous Fish & Chips. All were great, and we loved the friendly staff, we had our baby along with us and they were very friendly and kind to us. Great that you can take a walk on the beach after your meal!

6.75 for a pint of beer. Expensive food. One vegan option, which is a spent grains veggie burger without any sauce. Dry and lots of wheat, and pretty expensive. We wanted a side of jalapenos so they sliced up 1 raw jalapeno (didn't even grill it) and charged us $1.50 extra!!! If I were to sum it up : overpriced sub par food and overpriced decent beer. The ONLY thing they have going for them is location (right on the beach). Will skip this place next time we are in Pacific City.

We came here based on a friend's recommendation. I have low expectations of not only brewpub food but tourist restaurants in general (line way out the door), but Pelican's food was definitely solid. They boast that their calamari is the "best you'll ever have." It maybe wasn't the best, but it certainly was tasty and fresh with some delicious aioli. We did have a "best you'll ever have" moment later when our meals came. My boyfriend literally said out loud, "These fries are the best I've ever had." They were really flaky and golden and hot out of the fryer. The burger wasn't necessarily special, but was decent (cooked perfectly to our request for medium) with a good bun. My fish tacos again weren't over-the-top great, but everything tasted fresh and had big chunks of white fish. The green rice served with it was delicious. We didn't get a beer this visit, but overall found the cost comparable to other coastal restaurants. There was an hour on the waitlist for a late Saturday lunch, but there aren't many other options either. The texting when your table option is nice though, because we could stroll the beach under the sunshine without worry we'd miss our spot. Would definitely go back to actually try the beer and one of the beer-infused desserts.

Awesome! We had hummus and beer as a mid-day snack and it was fantastic. Our waiter, Evan, was also awesome. Wish we could have had dinner here!

Didn't even see a server until Half an hour after being seated. Server was defensive and somewhat agitated. Didn't get breakfast order until half an hour later, and then the omelet was only like warm. Good thing it tasted good. Will not return.

Food and beer are ok. The service however was horrible. We hardly ever saw Randall, and it would take him 5 minutes to get a napkin! He then charged our credit card for 70 dollars when my credit card receipt and reality showed that it was $40. It then took a week of arguing with the GM before they finally gave us the difference back. Horrible service all around.

Four stars for the beautiful location and great waitstaff. Though the food was decent, its very expensive, lunch cost us $65.00 for beer and two meals so no fifth star for you! The down side; over an hour wait then when we were finally called, they told us the prime location tables next to the beach are reserved for people with dogs...WHAT? Maybe dogs spend more on food and drink than humans and since when does a dog pay the tab? Oh I bet its because dogs are better tippers... Guess next time, I'll borrow someone's dog or start barking to get a better table...just sayin'

It's your typical coastal tourist bar. Their own beer is good, but very expensive for what it is. The food is solid, and there's an interesting variety to the menu. Service is okay--from our experience, service isn't indifferent but not exactly personable either. This past time I was in Pacific City, we stopped for a beer at the Pelican. It was one of the worst experiences in a bar I've ever had. At $6.50 a pint, I would expect the place to have some standards. A visibly intoxicated woman (I'm not talking about alcohol, although I'm sure that was part of it), managed to find her way to the bar and prop herself on a stool. Anyone could tell she was not kosher--the area around her nose was bright red, as if she was huffing/snorting something, and she was agitated but quiet. How she was served in the first place, I have no idea--but she spent the next hour and a half mumbling to herself and, at times, insulting and talking about fellow patrons just loud enough to garner looks. Unfortunately I was there alone for most of that time while my friend was taking a call, so I couldn't just up and leave. I moved down two seats and she followed. Had there been other spots available--or open tables--we would have moved for sure at this point. Unfortunately, it was crowded. As I said, she was chattering to herself the entire time, insulting people (myself in particular), and continued to do so after I politely asked her to keep her thoughts to herself. The bartenders all but disappeared from our end, but when they were around I tried to catch their eye and draw their attention. Later, when this person finished their beer she asked a male bartender for another and, to his credit, he said he couldn't serve her. She was not instructed to leave or anything however, though eventually she did manage to find her way out. It was uncomfortable for quite a few of us, and begs the question of why people like that are A: allowed in the restaurant in the first place, and B: how can they be served alcohol. I'm not suggesting this touristy/family restaurant employ a bouncer, but some security, or at least higher standards, could have made this a much more enjoyable night out. I've seen people thrown out of dive bars for less. It's illegal to serve people visibly under the influence, and I have a hard time believing this person looked/smelled/sounded like they were okay to be served; she put the 'toxic' in intoxicated. Food: 4/5 Beer: 5/5 Service: 2.5/5 Prices: 0/5. Expensive Standards: questionable

Pros: Beer, food, and service are very good. Cons: Expect to wait. There is always a line to get seated and usually you can expect it to be about 20 minutes as it has become a tourist destination. Everything is priced a bit high. Try: Onion rings and fish and chips. Some of the best I've had.

I'm a fan solely for the fact that this place is located at an amazing location with a great view of the ocean. Otherwise, the wait is terribly long and the food is overpriced. The beer is all award winning, and so we just ended up sitting at the bar, sipping some beers and eating calamari appetizer. Bill

This was a bad experience, and had confirmed only what I had heard thu the grapevine about what is going on at the Pelican. It was slow to get seated (25 minute wait at 2:30pm on a Sunday) Once seated, the table was not wiped; crumbs all over the chairs. 10 minutes of sitting without seeing a waiter, 15 minutes until waters arrived. The general deportmant of the waiter was nice, but also quite nieve to his surroundings that things were not going well. The staff was abundant, and at times 4-5 would be standing in a circle in the back banquet room doing absolutely nothing. Not refilling a Coke, not pulling an empty plate with a crumpled napkin. Just nothing. The cobb salad had to be sent back, as the lettuce was completely slimed and matted together like it has been sitting in the produce tub for a week in the back of the refrigerator. The fish & chips, while it tasted good; was a portion that would keep an 8 year old full for 2 hours. I didn't even bother with a beer, as being involved with the Portland beer scene for many years. Surely, the price and enjoyment would put me over the top. The worst part, was that we couldn't even end the pain of our $36 dollar tab for 10 minutes as the waiter just negleted to stop by. ONE star for the amazing PC view of the dunes and Haystack Rock. ONE star for being open. You can tell they KNOW they are the only show in town, and based on their pricing; you can tell they are trying to fund their upcoming production brewery in Tillamook. And that was my last time going to the Pelican. Next time, I'll support another local guy who understands that the customer is always right.

Going to the roadhouse gonna have a real good time. Leave it to the trusty Yelp iPhone app to lead me through the storm of uninspiring roadside options like so many of the lighthouses we passed along the way. What's this? An award winning beachfront brewery. Don't mind if we do. It was crowded for lunch and we grabbed a few stools at the bar and tried a sample of the house brews. They were all very good. We finished them up just as our table was ready. We settled in at a booth that overlooked the rocks and shore. Beers now. Pelican ale for the lady and the Scottish Ale for me. The Scottish Ale was great. We made short work of the Caribbean shrimp skewers. They had a nice kick to them that was just perfect on this summer day. We washed it down with some great pints and were back on the road.

Always love the beer, the view is fantastic and the atmosphere is fun even when it's laid back. I had a great burger last night and this morning's breakfast was pretty good. The beer pancakes really do taste like beer. I have to admit I have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for this place since I have had some good memories made here and a coworker/friend of mine retired from his job in the Seattle area years ago and came here to brew beer. It's definitely worth the effort if you're in the area.

I absolutely love this place! They have an amazing verity of beer and all are true to their styles! I also love that it is right on the beach, and you have a beautiful view the whole time you're there! That alone is worth 6 stars! The shitty thing about this brewery/ restaurant is that it is horribly over priced for the Sysco grade food they serve. And the server we had literally was the worst I have ever experienced! This 50 something year old waiter was so awkward and weird. No joke he actually farted at our table. Yup just broke wind when he handed us our sampler tray. At least he said "excuse me" right? I have never been so embarrassed while eating dinner. But also have never laughed so hard! Pelican Brewery is definantly a unique place, and hopefully it will improve with the food and service. I do enjoy their beers, but will probably will only stop there for a growler fill next time.

The view is killer, they have tons of room, you will most likely have to wait on weekends during summer months for up to 1.5 hours for a table. The food is pretty darn good and the service was not bad. Overall package if you want a great view of a big ass rock in the ocean, some great beer selections and good food. Try the cheese beer soup, I mean come on it's cheese AND beer how the hell could anything go wrong with that!

Hmmmm. Tough to rate this place. The location is pretty Awesome, the India Pelican Ale is pretty good, but the food.... Sucked! So the location looks out over the Beautiful Beach scenery and after a cold hike up the sand dunes it's a Great place to stop and have a beer! I ordered the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos which were terrible! Dried out thick pieces of fish which were probably frozen. The menu description said they would be topped with cabbage, cilantro, lime slaw, chipotle creme and pico de gallo. I don't even think half of that made it in the tacos, therefore with the dry fish the tacos were really dry! The steamed white rice was clumpy and hard and the beans were flavorless! For $15.99 I was extremely disappointed! My friend ordered a cup of clam chowder and commented that it had too much Flour in it. 4 Stars for the Location and Beer 1 Star for the Food.

India pelican ale is my favorite ipa. And I'm a brewer. I've been waiting a long time to go here. The website said to have the wings with the ipa, and they have no wings. The waitress had no idea what I was talking about. The biggest issue. The beer in bottles it the lobby is cheaper than the draft. WTF?!?!?! $7.50 for a 20 oz glass, $6.50 for a 22 in the lobby. Hoodies are $60. This place is WAY too expensive. Dinner for two and a few beers was $90. And it has an odd "Applebee's" feel to it. Good view though. Did I mention my first fresh $7 India pelican ale was flat? The brewer needs to flee, and quickly.

Like many of the reviews you'll find about the Pelican, the wonderful staff are the best part of the experience (but the view out of the ocean facing windows are quite nice, too! I and my friends were in town for a "guy's weekend" getaway, and we ended up at the Pelican twice today. Audrey was our server during the day, and her warmth and charm was great. We tried another establishment in town in the evening, but it didn't have the vibe we were looking for, and we came back to the Pelican for the fun & friendly atmosphere. Casey served us, and she was charming and friendly as well. We had staff who recognized us from our earlier visit in the day stop by our table, just to say hello and chat for a few minutes. The food was fine, and there's plenty of beer selections. The staff get 5 stars. I only took a star away because the bar is not equipped to make more than a handful of mixed drinks (I didn't even realize that they had hard liquor until after I had ordered my beer & then spotted the tiny cabinet). I would only have taken away half a star, if I could. It would be nice if you could get a greater variety of mixed drinks...but then again, it is a brewery! :-)

I will still have to come here with the hubby to drink beer but I'm totally over this place for food. The service and location is great but the food sucks and is way overpriced. I tried their soy lime grilled chicken salad last weekend. It was a cup of undercooked yakisoba noodles, 1/8 cup of sheared lettuce, 1 snow pea sliced into 5pcs, and a small, dry, chicken breast...for $13.99. The dressing was literally soy sauce with a squeeze of lime that was a large puddle under my so-called salad. The small amount of greens and noodles soaked up all of that saltiness. GROSS.

Really good pub food! The beer however, well it's probably great to anyone not living in Beervana Oregon. But to us local beer snobs, well this flight just didn't add up. Still it's a great place with an awesome view and fast, friendly service. We will return.

As we have a beach place down here, we have been going to the PP for about seven years now I believe (pretty much since it opened). We have seen some ups and downs with this place during that time - and it seems like the ups and downs happen concurrently! Just when you get a favorite, they change the menu! (Please bring back the polenta squares with the black beans!). So find a basic item and stick with it (their pizza is surprisingly good most of the time). There fish and chips (the fries rated "6 stars" last time we were in) are usually pretty decent (ignoring the horrible price point), pizza, burgers - but if you come for anything it has to be one of Darren's incredible beers (Tsunami Stout and Kiwanda Ale are family favorites) AND their clam chowder (my son would come here once to twice a day for the chowder). If you come during high season, bring lots of patience (usually for the wait time to be seated AND to get your food) and just enjoy an excellent brew and the views. Do your best to ignore the extra $3-$8 a person you are paying for than normal - RELAX - you're on vacation! Tip - call ahead and just do take out. Order and extra bowl or two of chowder, and a growler of beer. Sure it's pricey - but what? - that's right - you're on vacation.......

There is a serious flaw with their business plan for seating outside. We arrived at 2 pm on a sunny Sunday in October (a rare treat indeed!). I was told the outside wait was 1+hrs - we needed to get home so couldn't wait that long but 15 min'ish for inside was better than at the bar. We got seated at a table with a great view (and we could see all the outside tables - one of which was empty). Our server asked for our order and I asked (a little cheekily) if there was any way to sit outside because that table had been empty for 10 min or so. She said they text patrons on the outside wait list and give them 15 min to show up, if they are a no show they give the next person 15 min - you see where I'm going. So we sat there at our table inside on a gorgeous day (and would have ordered another beer if we were outside - read $13 lost profit) and watched that table sit for close to 40 min (the time we were there ordering and eating our food). And other tables sitting for longer than they should as well outside. So had their process been better, they could turn the tables outside more often (read more profit for the restaurant and more tips for the servers) if they change this policy and avoid annoying the indoor diners wanting to sit outside and ruining their moods by watching tables outside sit empty knowing they are just waiting waiting for someone to show up. You are welcome.

I Didn't want anything heavy, so I just asked for a cheese pizza. They made it a 5 cheese pizza with everything they had in house. Everyone is so happy and cheerful. Just a great place to be. Better than the place across the street.

We had a great time at the Pelican Pub this weekend. We were seated right away on a Saturday night...but that's probably because we went in a bit earlier then the "rush" time. We got there at about 4:30. But what a perfect time to get there with the sun just about to start to set. My son ordered the kids grilled cheese sandwich and my husband and I both ordered the fish and chips. At first we were a little taken back by the prices on the menu but after eating the fish and chips and tasting how delicious they were it was ok. We both ordered a light beer as well and both of those were delicious too! After we were done eating we went out on the beach and played and watched the sun set. PERFECT evening in Pacific City!

I was looking forward to eating here since I was staying across the street at Inn at Cape Kiwanda. We had dinner there last night and I was very disappointed. It took forever for the waiter to even get to our table and it wasn't that busy. They were out of many things including clams & mussels. The food was very overpriced! You must be paying for the view of Haystack Rock & being right on the ocean beach. I will pay those higher prices if the food is worth it but it definitely isn't here! I will not be back.

I'll keep this simple Ambience - 5 stars because the view is amazing, I think we all know that going in. Beer - 4 stars - they make tasty stuff but its not the cream of the crop. I really did enjoy the wet hop ale 'Elemantal' that they had on tap for a seasonal. Food - 4 stars National Cheeseburger day so they had a 3 cheeseburger slider deal going on. they were awesome burgers and the bun was amazing to boot. loved it. price - 1 star - this is their biggest downfall, holy expensive. they need to cut a buck or two off all their food offerings holy buckets. Wait staff - 4 stars - pleasant, had no issues with us having a baby with us and were on top of getting us drinks and water. Cheers!

We were driving down the road and saw there was a brew pub, so we pulled in. So glad we did! We didn't have to wait, just walked right in and sat at the bar. We had a really friendly bartender who told us all about their beers. My boyfriend got the beer sampler, and the bartender included an extra 3 tasters on the tray for free! After deciding which beers we liked best, we each got a pint. Its a really cool spot right on the beach with great views. I didn't eat here but the beer is great!

No way......are we really seeing this? This is the exact thing we kept saying to each other as we drove down the road off of 101 to this beautiful Shangri-la that we'll call Pacific Beach, OR. and more importantly, the Pelican Pub and Brewery. My wife and I were on a road trip down from Seattle and stumbled onto this place as a total accident. Well off the beaten path and south of Tillamook, this little sliver of paradise is just what we wanted - and needed. This restaurant looks out onto one of the most dramatic shores on the Oregon coast. Want to watch people surf and bon-fire on the beach? No sweat! Go clamming? Okay! All while kickin' back with some awesome brew? Sign us up! Everyone here was warm, welcome and very engaging. Had some great conversations and some awesome food! Get the seafood quesadilla and fish and chips. Whoooo-weee! Perfection in a meal. Beer? Don't even worry brah - any one you pick is going to sit right with you. Very tasteful and cold! You won't be sorry for making the detour on this place - we'll definitely be back!

This place is too big to enjoy. The weather was dreary but there was still an hour wait for an inside table. We were given one of those devices that you usually get at The Old Spaghetti Factory and Claim Jumpers - they flash when your table is ready. The menu did its best to stray from normal pub fare but they should have stuck with the basics. The onion rings were fantastic but the fish & chips and curry chicken were a big fail in my book. The main room seemed okay but since we had a large group we were seated in a large cafeteria-like room. Of course we were really there for the beer, which was pretty good. The thing is, as a big consumer of microbrews I like a microbrewery experience when I go out to drink. Small-to-medium settings that are a little rough around the edges. This place screamed "TOURIST DESTINATION!!!" so loud I'm surprised my ears weren't bleeding.

Thought I'd update my review since I actually got to sit down at this place. We went there twice, once to fill up the growlers (right) and once to eat lunch (wrong). As people have mentioned before, this is practically the one large restaurant in town so your options for eating out are pretty limited in Pacific City. They have a monopoly being located right on the beach with a large parking lot. Let's just say this place is not losing money. And when the average lunch dish costs $15.99, well...you better save up to eat here. I ordered the fish tacos. Three small pieces of marinated fish and about 5 corn tortillas. The quinoa salad on top was the best part of the meal which actually had some spice and taste. The fish was bland and uninspired and the tortillas were soggy. I can make a better fish taco. My kid ordered a chicken strip meal which literally came with one chicken strip and tons of fries. Kind of a ripoff. I think they should be embarrassed for serving kids such measly meals. We had to wait 15 mins for our large party and when we got seated, it was in an empty room so it wasn't for a previous party to clear. I guess they just don't want to seat you right away if you have more than 2 people. Our server was nice and the beers were good. They have a great view. Next time, I'm sticking to the growler fill and eating elsewhere.

This place has got the right idea, but the service is mediocre. The food is good but not amazing. The beer and the view on the other hand are fantastic. The place is very spacious and the views of the beach are breathtaking. The menu items are pretty typical of a pub. You've got your standard burgers and apps, and a few fancier entrees. We got seated quickly for an inside table, but apparently an outside table had a pretty lengthy wait. No matter, you can clearly see the lovely beach and haystack rock just as well from the inside, minus dealing with the windy, chilly weather (being from hawaii, I'm always cold :-p). Our waiter asked us for our drink orders, and never having been there before, I wanted to sample a few before I ordered an entire pint. Our waiter didn't seem too thrilled with that idea, but said he could bring me 2 or 3 tastes. I can be a little indecisive, and he obviously looked a little annoyed that I was taking some time to make up my mind. After he left, I looked a little more thoroughly through the menu and saw that there was a tasting flight option! You could get 7 tastes for $7! Ummm... Helloooo! Why didn't you recommend this option to me?! I wasn't just looking for freebie tastes, I would be willing to pay for a flight. A lot of the servers looked really young and unhappy to be there. Definitely brought the fun, hip feel of the place down a few notches. In the end, two entrees (fish and chips and fish tacos) and two pints came out to about $50! Daaaanng! Maybe next time we'll opt for some pelican bottles to go and a picnic on the beach with cheaper take out. Cause honestly, the beer and views were the real winners.

An attempt on fancier coastal pub foods with a C on execution of finer food quality. Stick to burgers, and sandwiches. I am sure anything fried will be equally tolerable. But if you splurge for the house special tri-tip, note I warned you and your tastebuds. It is a pub so the beer options are great, and if you want a view, it certainly has it. Decent staff, a little overpriced, but where else are you going to eat?

5 stars for view. 1 star for guy hosing down the windows from the outside during breakfast (do this before the place opens, y'all!). 2 stars for the $12.99 brunch - everything was mediocre with overcooked bacon and tasteless quiche and deflated looking doughnuts. 4 stars for the service - the women all working there were very nice. Oh well.

Good stop if you're in Pacific City, but I dropped a star because of the prices. I have been coming here for years since they first opened on family vacations and the food used to be better a few years ago. The beers here are pretty good, sometimes they have some seasonals but it does seem like they have less specialty beers on tap. I had the surfer summer ale which was good. For food we tried to pick something not too pricey for a snack/lunch. We settled on the clam chowder and house salad combo. The chowder was really good a d the salad came with your choice of dressing, I chose blue cheese vinagarette which was really good. For 4 people the bill was $85. That wasn't even a full meal from the lunch menu. I guess there are practically no other restaurants around so they have the market, but still that was pricier than some meals I had in Portland. The view is great if you're on the patio or by the window, but the prices just aren't worth it.

The stars are for location, location, location. I'm not a beer snob, so that doesn't really do much for me. I LOVE the way you can get on the waiting list, and they text you to let you know your table is ready. We always allow enough time to sit and watch the waves before we are ready to eat. The list moves quickly. The food is just OK. Portions are small, especially for the fish and chips, for the price. Yet, this is the place we always go to in Pacific City. Just breathe in the ocean air and take in the view.

While staying in town for our beach vacation, we opted to make this a night out. While we expected a wait to obtain a table after seeing the line ups all day long when we're were on the beach, we used the text service. They let us know when it was our turn, about 45 mins wait and now it was much after 9 pm. As a large party of 5, we had a round of drinks and ordered fairly quickly. I tried a beer cocktail and it was way, too sweet. So we tried to add more beer and it just wasn't to my liking. The server we had was so very nice, staying bubbly and genuine about not enjoying the drink. It got switched up , but should have asked for a price of a bar shot (7.50) to add to a glass of root beer. Everyone enjoyed their food, although two of our burgers were not "well done" as ordered and pink/ raw in the middle. I opted to send mine back to finish being cooked, while my friends finished their meals. Again our server was fantastic , but with the high price of he meals ( knowing the food scene in Vancouer/Seattle/Hawaii) this was an expensive night for mediocre food, which wasn't cooked to the order our server placed.

I've come to the Pelican Brewery regularly on coast visit throughout the last four years and always left with good memories... ah, the crab cakes and IPA, the happy smiling service, the chill beach crowd. Never more. I am sad to see this place become dog un-friendly, remove crab from the menu (WTF it's the freakin' Oregon coast), and service become a walking Brigid Schulte novel; "Overwhelmed: Work, Love, and Play When No One Has the Time." I am sad seeing signs all along the exterior, a picture of a dog with a red circled blackslash, while every other person on the surrounding beach has a dog with them and I make whispered plans with my husband on how we get a beer, food and not have to lock our dog in the hot car. I am sad putting up the "ssssshhhhh" sign to a drunk person's friend who's friend, was served by the bartender before me. Undoubtably because he had a louder voice to catch her attention, while I politely waited in what another server told me was the line. That's the last time. It's time to discover the other treasures along the Oregon coast.

Sadly, this place is always extremely crowded and busy. But what does one expect when it doesn't really have any competition in the area? The prices are obscene for what you get. The last time my boyfriend and I came we easily spent upwards of $60 for an app, one drink each and an entree each. Only to have mediocre food and so so beer. I'll be happier packing a picnic lunch from now on. No fighting with crowds, no crazy price tag and a view that I don't have to look over someone's shoulder to see.

We ordered the spicy burger and the salmon BLT sando. The burger was bland with a slight hint of heat and the salmon just didn't taste very good... We split both and didn't finish the salmon. Fries, beer, and root beer were good. The waiter was nice and attentive. We went at night so we didn't get to see the view. Food: 2/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5

My husband and I have been vacationing in Pacific City since before we were married and before the pub was built. We've eaten there many, many times in the intervening years, and started taking our daughters there when they were old enough to enjoy it. We've had excellent experiences, but we've also had truly terrible experiences. Even so, we've always given them another chance, hoping that "next time" would be one of the excellent ones. But now we've started to feel like the good experiences are far outnumbered by the not-so-great ones. The prices have become pretty outrageous -- $14-17 for a burger and fries, $14 for a plate of onion rings, and those are some of the least expensive things on the menu! Put chicken in your Caesar salad and it will cost you 20 bucks. Even being fairly frugal will probably end up at $100 for a family of four. Okay, the view is worth a premium price, though if you sit inside on a nice-ish day, it's hard to see much of it past all the tables full of people on the outside deck. But at the prices they're charging, both the food and the service should be beyond reproach. Our most recent visit yielded fairly good service, but it's not always so. I ordered the Spicy Burger, which was kind of... meh. It had the high, spicy flavor notes, and the low, rich notes, but nothing in the middle. The meat didn't have a lot of flavor outside of the blackening spices, and the cheese was tasteless. Fix those two things and the burger might be okay. My fries arrived barely warm, but the flavor was good. My husband's Tri-Tip Sando was excellent (once they brought him the right order), but even though his order arrived well after mine, his fries were also lukewarm. There is something definitely wrong with the serving procedure if that is happening. The selection of beers is much smaller than it used to be. We missed having their excellent Belgian-style ales, and couldn't really come up with an adequate substitute. And we skipped dessert because their menu is barely worth considering. So, another disappointment. I think what they really need is some stiff competition, because there really isn't anything comparable nearby. They've got a bit of a corner on the market in their location, and their patrons are suffering for it. We'll probably keep coming back to Pacific City, but the jury is out on whether we'll be bothering with the Pelican anymore.

Clearly one of the best views you could ask for, nice beer selection, KIwanda Cream Ale was my favorite. Food is good, but a bit over priced, $20.99 for a salad topped with salmon. Service was average.

The beer and service here are solid. They get two stars because we ordered the most expensive seafood dish (cioppino @ $29.99) and almost couldn't eat it. The herbs used were over powering in the cioppino and you couldn't really enjoy the seafood. The clam steamers were blah. Overall I was completely unsatisfied with the seafood and that was the primary reason we ate here.

I came here with my Mom for a late lunch, parking was easy and the weather was beautiful. BEER: We decided to share a beer sampler and our server added on a couple of extra tasters of some of their other seasonal beers. All of them were pretty good, I don't usually like IPAs but the Pelican IPAs had a certain freshness to them that I enjoyed. My favorite was the Kiwanda Cream Ale. FOOD: We decided to share a couple of dishes because everything looked so good. We had a hard time deciding but eventually ordered the Smoked Oyster Bruschetta and the salmon flatbread. They were both awesome, my mom couldn't stop talking about the bruschetta for the next couple of days.... The atmosphere and service were both wonderful! The view was incredible and I would love to come back when I am in the area!

Larger, family style brewpub with a great view of the sea stacks on the Oregon coast. Really beautiful inn across the street if you are staying in Pacific City. 30-40 min wait when we were there on a Sunday night; pretty surprised. Food is a bit pricey and the menu is a tad outdated. Seafood options were limited and sandwiches and pizzas did not have any unifying theme. Marinara sauce served with rockfish was very strange. But everything was eaten and enjoyed. For beer, you can get a flight of everything they have on tap; and the beer quality is high. They excel at fringe styles like cream ale, brown ale, foreign stout. They brew to GABF guidelines so win a lot of awards showcasing beers with clean mouthfeels and mild hop bitterness. Impressive list. Service was very friendly and the beer/food came out quickly. Now beware that in the men's restroom the toilets spray water all over the place so be very careful.

As mentioned by others, place is super busy but we found a great place at the bar complete with the game we wanted to see right in front of us at the bar. I liked the place but on vacation I would do the Sportsman Tavern 3 nights to one at the Pelican. Completely different scene. My fish and chips were the best on my week trip. Great cole slaw and nice fish. Clams were good but different with the spices. But under portioned. Nice evening but 3 craft beers, fish and chips and half the steamers bill and it was a $50.00 dollar night.

If you're staying across the street you don't have a ton of options. Which is probably why this breakfast is so horrible. Easily the worst I've had in any restaurant. Ever. Yuck.

Great food, good beer. You can order their delicious food to eat in the restaurant, on the patio with a great view of the Oregon Coast, or togo. I had the fish and chips, pretty simple, but so worth it. House made Beer battered Alaskan Cod served with beer battered fries, homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw w/pineapples. It was great. I hate tartar sauce, but tried their house made tartar sauce with my fish and LOVED IT. Beer is amazing, they have growler fills. The restaurant is right off of the beach, imagine getting fresh growlers full of amazing beer to enjoy in the beach?

Award winning beer with great views and incredible food. We had the spicy burger with black bean patty for our vegan needs and the sweet potato quinoa patties as well. For refreshment the Doryman Ale and the MacPelican Ale, both with low IBU to allow for a nice summer refreshing experience yet bold malted barley flavor. The parking was a challenge, but we were there a holiday weekend. And the view of the ocean was amazing. We will be coming back.

Obviously the attraction here is the view. It's beyond spectacular - a perfectly situated brewpub with ocean views, so this place starts off on the right foot immediately. Service was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. Since I wasn't sure which beer to try, I had the flight sampler. Most were good interpretations of their style, with the standouts being Tsunami Stout and Umbrella IPA (a seasonal beer). My fish tacos with quinoa salad were exactly what I wanted that day. My only minor complaint is the 6-pack of Umbrella IPA only had 5 in it, with another IPA occupying the 6th slot. Didn't notice that until I got home, so who knows if they messed up or if a patron had switched it in the fridge.

Food was excellent but just felt expensive for what is ended up being. The tables by the window are where you want to be to get a nice view of Haystack rock. Beers where ok. Cream ale was my favorite (and most awarded it seems). Belgian dubble left a lot to be desired of, IMO. Waits can be long for a table, be forewarned. Maybe they are better when they are also seating people outside in the summer? They do have a nice system where they will text your phone, so you can go down to the beach or walk across the street while waiting. Great selection of merch available to take home + bottles and growlers. Overall, probably one of the prettiest brewpubs I've every visited (how can you loose with that location), but now that I've been there, probably won't make a special trip back, no offense.

Pelican is situated right on the water in Cape Kiwanda and offers great views of the coastline. The interior is a little dated, but the service is friendly and they have their awesome brewery beers on tap. We opted for a beer flight and loved all of the beers the bartender brought out for us (especially the IPA). For food, we ordered the fish tacos. They weren't the best I have ever had, but tasty nonetheless. This place is great to take families or larger groups, as they have a lot of seating and big booths to cozy up in with friends to enjoy some beers by the sea!

I'm super sad about the quality of the food here. We have been coming here at least annually for at the last 10 years and have consistently noticed a decline in the food. However, the beer is way good, and it is a brewery, which is the only reason for the three star review. At the very least, I wish they would bring back the dory caught fish and chips. To be eating on the coast and the only fish options on the menu come from Alaska is an absolute shame. If they didn't have good beer, we honestly would never go back. Go in with the mind set that your gonna get a great view, good beer, and bar food and you may not leave as disappointed as we did.

Popped by here on our way up the coast, excited to try a new brew pub. Sadly ended up being not a great experience and won't be a place that we return nor recommend to anyone else. Yes, the view is lovely... and service was fine. The beer was ok, but the food was mediocre and the prices were obscene. There were no appetizers or small plates that were under ten bucks, and all of the entrees were upwards of fifteen-twenty bucks. On top of that- NO HAPPY HOUR?!?! What the what? We ended up splitting a tiny flatbread pizza, with mediocre flavor and not even a side salad or anything.... for $14. With a beer each it ended up being a thirty dollar stop that didn't begin to fill our stomachs. Meh... will possibly try more of their beers from the store, but won't be returning to the brew pub.

I did not get anything to eat here so I can't really comment on the food. I did get a beer here though. I got the "Bad Santa" beer which was a dark ale. It was very bitter and also had a good frothiness to it. The beer was good but not the best I ever had. the place itself is definitely for tourists just by how it is set up but there is a fantastic view of the ocean here and a beach is right outside where you can stroll down to and take in the beautiful view even further. The place is clean and friendly and is an asset to Pacific City I could only imagine. All these little beach towns need at least one brewery in their city limits!

  • Linda S.

The view is great, and the beer is, too. With such a prime location on the beach, I didn't expect much from the menu. The mac n cheese was pretty good, but the burger was the way to go. Seriously good. And the beer pairings on the menu made dinner even more funnnnn. Oh yeaahhhhh. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the service was a bit rushed.

Fish and Chips and kids Mac & Cheese were good. Ribs and potatoes were terrible. Food is overpriced. Service was friendly... That alone seems to be difficult to find! Will be looking for another restaurant to try next time we are in Pacific City.

BEST FRIES EVER. Good place, pretty expensive. Not very many menu options which is a huge down side considering there's only 3 places to eat in town.

The Pelican revamped their menu on Monday, and not for the better. Pizzas are gone, and they were the fairly trusty standby on the menu, and now they only boast two sandwiches, one drenched in sweet BBQ. Two sandwiches? They kept their middling chowder, fish tacos, and calamari. I had the cured salmon BLT last night, which was decidedly unremarkable. Fries are battered, but still managed to be limp and greasy. I haven't decided if the new "flat bread", for both sandwiches and the loathe flatbread pizzas, fell off the back of a Sysco freezer truck, or are made in house. If the flatbread is made in house, it's woefully bad. Who wants flat bread? It's a calculated move to save on food costs, lengthen storage, and still raise prices for an inferior product. If I want pita, I will seek it out, but don't foist cheap flat bread on people and call it some kind of goodness, because it ain't. Bread requires care, crust, chew, resilience and air. This stuff sucks. Beer here is passable, but drastically overpriced. $7.25 for an English pint of their imperial IPA. It would be fair at $5. You pay for the beachfront, and the Cape Kiwanda Pelican mafia which owns a quarter of Pacific City. Do yourself a favor and hit the Sportsman. You will find a superior tap selection, and the food is better, because it doesn't attempt at swing and a miss highbrow.

This place is busy busy-they told us it would be a 40 min wait but it ended up actually being a 10 min wait, and they send you a text when your table is ready! Our waitress was the nicest person, she was so helpful, very knowledgable of the menu and beer, she was super great! The food was phenomenal, beer was on point, staff was nice, and view was amazing....all in all thats an A+ for us! We will be returning soon!

It's hard, because the location is excellent, right on the beach. If you're just going for beers and it's a nice day for the back patio, you cannot go wrong. The food however, is just A-OK. Nothing special, not bad, just not the best. I got the black bean burger w/fries. For $13 I think it's overpriced, but they got you on the location. My friends got the fish tacos and said they weren't that flavorful. Good service, good beer, and good location.

Prices are way too high, period. No brewery should be charging this much for a glass of beer, even if located on the Oregon Coast in a beautiful location. Other breweries up and down the coast charge 25-33% less for their beers with similar grain/hop/yeast/water/equipment costs. Pelican beers are good, but not worth the price. The only beers worth paying for here are their Belgian style beers, which are good and closer to a competitive price point to other breweries' beers. That said, all of their beers are well made, whether average or great for their style. Food is good, but overpriced as well. Don't expect to get out of here cheaply. Well run restaurant/bar, with plenty of servers and professional management, unlike many places on the coast. Service is decent, but not great. Nice surroundings, right on the beach in Pacific City with great views of the beach, the surfers, the dune/Cape Kiwanda, Haystack Rock, and the dory fleet launching/landing.

We visit Pacific City often and always make sure to stop in here at least once when we are staying here. I had a favorite waitress (Shelly, I think) that I used to always request and got amazing service every time. Upon our recent visit, we had a different server, who was extremely sweet, but missed a few marks. Keep in mind, this was a busy surfing weekend, so we were trying to be mindful of the fact they would be overwhelmed. I brought three girlfriends and my toddler with me. The hosts were very nice and accommodating. They made sure to give my son goldfish crackers while we waited so that he was kept happy. Bonus points for them. Our downfall was when our food came out, they hadn't brought our last friends burger with our complete order and said it would be a small wait. Where we are from, everyone waits until everyone has their meal to begin eating. It's only polite. Since we were starving after 15 minutes of waiting, we dug in and she snacked on a couple of our not so fantastic meals. As a different server brought out her cheese burger and exclaimed as she sat it down, "it looks like the cheese isn't melted, would you like me to take that back?"....duh. $15 super late CHEESEburger, yes, we would like it melted. As soon as she sent it back she regretted it. Another 15 minutes passed, and it came back more pitiful than before, with in edible garnishments, cold fries and a puck of a burger that obviously just sat under the heat lamps. Only because she was so hungry, she choked down half as we all sat there sad, feeling bad that our friends meal was so heinous and overpriced. We were never asked how our other food was, which was also a joke. We told our server AFTER we had no choice but to eat the crusty, hard, cold rice with our cold fish tacos. It was flavorful, but again had been sitting in a window along with our delicious salad and some other meal that wasn't memorable enough to comment on. She took the burger off, but didn't bother comping our bad tacos or even a drink to make up for some major flubs. In the future, if a customer has a complaint, just send the manager over to handle it. That's their job. I felt bad for our waitress and made sure to still tip her well. A lot of this could have been prevented had we been checked up on. We were there to spend money and drink. We would have ordered more cocktails given the opportunity. It's too bad. I was embarrassed I brought my friends here this day. Maybe they were short staffed that day. I hope that next time I return I can give a better review. Check out their homemade Stout! It's delicious. Also, check out showers at the back of the building where the surfers wash off. It's a great spot to site see.

VIEW: The view you get from sitting at their back patio is unbelievable. You are on the beach. I have no idea why they have so much seating inside their brewpub because the view from outside is so great. FOOD: The food is good. It's not great. It's definitely above par, but after finishing my meal I realized what you're really paying for at this place is the view. There are several fried things on the menu which are highly tempting, but I'd recommend something not fried. BEER: Sadly, the view and the food trumped the beer. We tried a flight of their beers and they definitely were not bad, but they weren't amazing either. I feel like if you are going to make beer you should try to create something unique. All of their beers, including a barrel-aged beer I had after the flight, were very plain. VERDICT: All and all I'd say GO!!!

Pretty crowed place with staff that was a little bit unfriendly. We went there for dinner and for breakfast. Dinner: - average food quality, the salmon sandwich was not what we expected, the burger was ok - The beer sampler was a good investment and a nice experience Breakfast - as other reviewers wrote: the breakfast buffet was pretty horrible: not much options to choose from and the food a little bit cold.

We waited for 2 hours when the hostess confirm 1 hour 30 mins. For the quality of the food and waiting was totally not worth it. Completely dissatisfied with the service and food. I wouldn't recommend coming back unless it's your last option.

Another Place I was looking forward to visiting while down in Oregon for my family vacation was the Pelican Pub Brewery. I had heard good things about their beers, the location right on the beach and most of all their beers. While the beach location didn't disappoint, how could it with a giant sand dune on the north end, I'm afraid I found the beer and food to be quite overrated and much too expensive. I should have known that with such a location they'd be rather expensive. You can also tell by looking at their menu online where they don't list any prices either. As soon as we arrived we were told we'd have about a twenty minute wait so I figured I'd fill the time well by grabbing a beer at the bar. Seven dollars and fifty cents poorer I sat there sipping on a pretty standard west coast style IPA. Soon and within the promised twenty minutes we were sat at some pretty good window seats near the back. Our server was prompt and offered good service. We both ordered salads while the kids got the standard kids meal menu items. I had the salmon salad which was rather small and the salmon was way overcooked. The "blackened" part was there but brought nothing special to the table offering almost no flavor. Turning to my wife she was giving me a look as she pried her teeth off pears that were some of the most under ripe pears we'd ever seen. You can actually see her teeth marks in the photo below. These pears were hard as rocks. The chicken on the salad was also dry and bland. The kids meals were fine but carbon copies of ones you find all over the Americanized planet - nuggets and fries. This meal ended up costing us, with tip and drinks, close to seventy-five dollars. That price does not include my beer which I'd paid for earlier. Maybe we hit them on a bad day but I cannot imagine a day when I'd be going back there again, not at those prices.

I never expect much in terms of food at breweries, especially if they're right on the beach, but this was a great surprise. The clam chowder was excellent and the black bean burger was one of the best we've ever had. Also, the Kiwanda cream ale from tap is extremely refreshing. Great road trip stop before you climb the sand hills!

I have to say the 5 stars are just for our server! She was awesome! - Quick, funny and knowledgable. BUT what made the whole thing really awesome was that she over heard us teasing each other about sharing a burger and the Mac and Cheese. When our food came out, she had had the kitchen split our meal! We had 2 bowls of Mac and cheese (which meant we both got the yummy topping) 1/2 the burger and 1/2 the fries! It was freaking awesome!!! The IPA was delicious and his 1/2 Palmer was perfect! The wait wasn't horrible and the view rocked. I know I won't get that great of service next time I am in there - but that's okay - it's not everyday you get treated that awesomely!

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner, if you've ever been there they already have a very limited menu.... We took about 20 minutes to order (indecisive) they asked if we were ready a few times, any one of those times they could've let us know that they were out of like 1/2 the menu..... the service was poor, food was fine. I will admit their cherry cobbler was delicious. But after this trip I doubt we'll waste that much money going here again.

If we didn't live on the other coast we would eat here as often as possible. Sitting at a table with a view of the beach and the ocean my wife and I both ordered a recent addition to the menu, the Backyard BBQ Burger. The combination of flavors was incredible: Oregon grown beef, Tillamook cheddar, bacon jam and BBQ sauce - both made with the brewery's stout - fried onion straws, arugula, and tomato. I had Silverspot IPA and my wife had MacPelican's Ale. Because it sounded to good to pass up, we shared salted espresso chocolate mousse.

This place has a great location and exploits it. It is very expensive. $11.99 for a kids meal? Outrageous. Our bill for 5 was $120. For one appetizer and burgers? Way above what surrounding restaurants charge. Food was just ok. Service was good, but can't make up for jacked up prices. One and done at this place.

Me and my boyfriend decided upon Pelican Pub & Brewery after a long day with the dogs on Kiwanda Beach. We ordered the mussels and the BBQ veggie burger with two of their home brewed beers. Service was fast and the meals were good plus you can't beat the view! The only reason I took off a star for this place is because the servers/bartenders seemed a bit all over the place but maybe that service style works for them. I should mention the prices were a bit steep (16.00 for a veggie burger..really?) but since there is not much to choose from in the town I think they have corned the food market. If I am in the area again I will definitely be eating there again.

Situated just steps from the beach in Pacific City and complete with gorgeous views of the Pacific and a nearby wooded hill, Pelican Pub is worth a stop when driving the Oregon coast. It seems like it will just offer mediocre bar food, but my wife and I were so pleased with our meal. She had a burger and I had the fish and chips, and while I'm not a big drinker, I had to order a "local" Oregon beer just to try it. Pelican Pub brews their own beer, and the one I tried was great, so smooth and drinkable. The food was delicious, certainly not in the realm of "bar food", and we sat at the bar where we received great service. Since you can dine at Pelican Pub and then walk down the beach to climb the hill to one of the most magnificent views I've ever seen in the United States, Pelican Pub is a great place to visit on the Oregon coast.

The more times I visit, the less inspired I become to return. There are standouts here, don't get me wrong: some of the seasonal beers (Poire, especially), the location (right on the beach), and the service. Creating the pushback for me are prices, beer variety, and beer character. $18 for fish and chips is just too much. Couple that with portion size, and it becomes a negative reinforcer. I understand your overheads may be higher than others, but wow. The saison, Grand Cru, Poire and other non-standard beer offerings are what keep me interested in your place, but your other beers are just, well, standard. Tourists abound in this destination on the beach, who may be more apt to pay exorbitant prices. For me, there may be few reasons to make the trek back to Kiwanda. If I find some of your more interesting brews on my local shelf, I may elect to enjoy them and harken back to the old days when I used to enjoy your spot for what it was, instead of trying to forget how much it cost me the last time I went...

It doesn't suck. First, the views are the stock Cape Kiwanda/Haystack Rock vista....in other words, SPECTACULAR!! The main problem is their very high prices for edible, but essentially mediocre pub fare. Did I mention the prices are VERY high? Just in case you missed it: their prices are very high for the quality of food served. Food Quality: Fair Food Prices: High It would appear they don't have to do any better, because they are always packed and you typically have to wait for a table. Their beer is fine, not among Oregon's best, but quaffable. I have a lot of family and friends in this area and I can tell you virtually NO locals eat here.....that's generally a pretty good indicator of a restaurant's quality.

Okay... I must say though I LOVE one beer they brew. It's called "Mother of All Storms" - aka MOAS. AND this was one of the main reasons why I decided to book my vacation (which I take maybe once in 2 years) in Pacific City, OR. What a disappointment. I should give this place 1 star (but that DAMN MOAS!!) Bad service, worse food (please avoid their pizza - nasty). Beautiful location and great "one" beer they brew = 2 stars.

We love Pelican Pub! I was slightly disappointed that an advertised new release craft beer was sold out the first day and a seasonal favorite was also unavailable. The old standards were excellent as always. I had fried oysters which were perfect! Lightly breaded, not at all greasy and cooked to perfection. My companion had a salad with excellent house dressing. Though I didn't have it this time, their brewers' burger is superb. They serve it on a "spent grain" home made bun that is incredible. Their home made veggie patty is also excellent.

I love this place, I really do. BUT! Their service and food quality has gone down hill over the corse of several trips out to Pacific City. Part of a large group we waited 1 hour and a half. For tables. We could have had them in half that time if they were creative table design. Went there with kids and they stuffed us furthest away from windows even when there was a better choice. A hot breakfast was served cold. It just tells me that it was not made fresh that morning. Just a sample of some of the declining level of service and quality. Please do better, eh?

Amazing view! Overpriced and the beer was only so so. We tried all their beers in an effort to find one to drink; we failed to find one. The fish & chips was nearly $18. :P Pass. The service was fine, not outstanding.

The Pelican is seriously underrated. I'm giving it 5 *stars* not only to improve the average but because I truly think it deserves it. The first night we arrived in Pacific city we went here for dinner. I was expecting regular pub food but boy was I wrong. I ordered a garden burger and if you know anything about garden burgers, you know good ones are tough to come by. It was delicious, probably the best I've had. My mom and sister ordered the Asian chicken salad and seafood pasta. I tried both and was amazed by the flavors. With a great first experience, we had to return for the next night and again, the food did not disappoint. Both nights we had very genuinely nice servers. This time around, our server was a tall guy and super sweet. He joked around with us and checked back often to see if we needed anything. This time we ordered Calamari, Portobello pizza and the Catch of the Day. Everything tasted very fresh but it was the pizza that was the real winner, I recommend it! To top it off, we finished with a house made Dutch Apple Tart. I was in heaven. We were intrigued who the food genius was behind the Pelican and discovered he was a former cook at Papa Hydens in Portland, an award winning restaurant for their food and desserts! I'm not a big beer drinker but the restaurant also has a ton of awards for their home brews. This is the place to go when you are in Pacific City!

Nice environment with a great view. Menu had a nice variety of choices. The brewpub burger is a good burger with nice flavor. Onion rings were good but for $2.00 extra, I wasn't impressed with only getting four rings. Overall nice restaurant.

Blah. Ridiculously overpriced for mediocre food and beer. You are absolutely paying for the view, which is amazing (hence the two stars). Way better beer on tap back in town at Twist.

My Sigma Chi pledge class came to Pacific City for the weekend and upon arriving at 9:30pm, we stopped at the pelican for dinner. The food was very good, I got the fish and chips basket which is composed of 3 beer battered Alaskan Cod(not too crispy), a large portion of beer battered fries, and a cup of coleslaw. I didn't leave being as full as I would have liked, but over all rating for food = 4 stars. The service at the pelican was not good but not bad. Service = 3 stars. The main drawback of the Pelican, at least for an unemployed college student, is the price. The fish and chips that I got were 17.99, and the cheeseburger which was one of the less expensive items on the menu was 13.99. Over-all, a decent dining experience. Because of the pricing, and average service, the Pelican gets 3 stars from me.

We stopped to have a beer and enjoy the location. I can easily say the view was the best aspect. Service was terrible, very snotty and rude. Although the beer was good, no chance they will ever get another dollar from me. Such a shame, waste of a great location.

Fab or fad? For me, the jury is still out on this one. Perhaps the great location has this place at the top of the areas "best' list, but there are a few opportunities for this place to do better, in my opinion. First, there seems to be two identities. The first is casual and laid back in the bar area and out on the deck, but there seems to be a more "fine dining" area in the dining room at the southwest corner of the building. I wonder if those diners got to hear the specials and what the fresh catches of the day were, because I sure didn't hear it from my server. I must have gotten the casual laid back service congruent with the area I was seated. I would have liked to know more about the menu and maybe gotten a recommendation or two. So definitely some room for additional training on how to sell food and beverages here. This brings me to another gripe I had, and a huge pet peeve of mine, table turnover. If you tell me there's a 20 minute wait and I'm standing in the bar area waiting for a table, and I can see multiple tables that haven't been bussed for minutes at a time, and tables that have been bussed, and nobody has been seated in over 5 minutes, not only am I a pissed off customer, but if I was a partner or business owner of the Pelican, I would be livid! That is a huge waste of my patience, everyone's time, and the business' money! That's just a lack of hussle and poor management, plain and simple. Lastly, I understand when eating at a restaurant on the beach I'm going to be spending some money, I'm ok with that, but there is a point of diminishing return for me. I will only pay so much for the great ocean views and "famous" fish and chips, right around $17, apparently. Would I pay $17 for fish and chips anywhere that I didn't have a spectacular view? Nope. Should I still feel like I got a great value for my money, regardless of where I am, to become a returning customer? Yes. Other than these gripes, I will say the beer is good and cold, the location is great (obviously), and the service is friendly albeit not trained very well. I'm not sure I think The Pelican is as cool as it thinks itself is, but time will tell. You have some growing up to do, Pelican.

3 stars for the view alone, if you can get one of the choice seats by the window, and look out on the Pacific Ocean. I had the veggie burger for lunch. It wasn't super appetizing, though it did appear to be hand-crafted. The beer list, this being a brewery, was pretty respectable. The stout was so-so, but you have the option of various sizes, which is good if you just want a taste. The restaurant was teeming with people, even at 3 pm on a rainy day, but they will text you when your table is ready. I don't imagine I'd return for just a meal, unless they're the only game in town, in which case I'll probably become a regular, and upgrade this review to 5 stars.

They told us to come in at 6:30pm because they told us out table was ready. It was not until 8:57pm until we actually seated. They were understaffed and not prepared at all. They were all out of FIVE different things we wanted to order. We left after learning we couldn't order anything we wanted. Absolutely horrendous management here.

A few weekends ago, I was in Portland to attend my Son's Parent-Teacher Conference and to hang out with him for a couple of days. On a surprisingly warm and sunny Portland Saturday, we decided to drive to Pacific City. The Kid wanted to show me how to climb the big sand dune at Cape Kiwanda State Park. We arrived about mid-morning and had a great time wandering on the beach, hiking the dune (which I approached from the side), and otherwise exploring the seaside real estate. After we came down around Lunch time, we were both hungry and there was the Pelican Pub & Brewery right in front of us. Besides being beach-side, this place has a stellar view and a cool patio (that is sometimes prone to hang glider landings). We opted to sit inside out of the sun, and both of us found our window seats to be comfortable and relaxing. There's lots of space within, which includes a gift shop in the front and a large private dining room in back for various community functions. Our server was about my age and when we told him where we were from, he proceeded to tell us about his band preferences - Early Journey and Tower of Power. I was impressed, while my Son didn't have a clue what we were talking about. The resulting table service (especially for our drinks) was prompt and friendly, and I really appreciated how well the Kid was treated. I'm usually a Burger and Beer guy, but chose the Green Chili Pork Stew instead. Holy Northern New Mexico! This dish was wonderful and with the Navajo fry bread, my mind wandered back to my delicious dining days in Española, Chimayo, etc. My choice of the dark Meg Doryman's ale also added nicely to the dish. My Son devoured his Fish and Chips and at least a couple of full glasses of root beer. I was recently asked what makes a 5 Star experience. It can be many things, but for a restaurant, it's usually that special combination of where you are, how you got there, who you're with, the personal connection, and a dining experience that executes it's business model well, and helps make the total greater than the sum of its parts. On this special day, that was the Pelican Pub and Brewery.

I can't believe the prices. $6.75 for a pint of beer? Really? You can get a pint across the street for $4. Plus the food is really expensive. $14 Mac n cheese? That is one of the cheapest plates on the menu! The wait staff is excellent though. The food is decent but the level of price hikes are ridiculous.

  • Dc B.

Be prepared to wait. Our server was pretty good, considering it was Dory Days. The place was swamped. The beer is the best thing going for them. I have been going to the Pelican for over ten years. Their potions have definitely decreased and the prices have gone up. way up! I ordered their Quote "famous fish and chips" I got three small pieces of bait on my plate with about twenty french fries, for a fee of 15.99. Granted they have the best view of the Haystack rock, but really ?!! The beer is 6 bucks for a 20 ounce glass! My advice, buy a bottle from their cooler for less ,and grab a sandwich from across the street, and pull up a dune and enjoy the view. I hope the management reads this review and considers everyone that has posted a comment about their quality that is terrible! Cheers!

We stopped here on our way down to Newport. I ordered the taster tray, which is 6 original beers and one seasonal and come in 3oz glasses for 7 bucks. It's a good way to try a lot of their beers and still get a decently priced beer. My boyfriend got a pint of one of their IPAs. I'm pretty sure it came in a 20oz glass, too! All their beers where delicious. We got an order of calamity to share. It came with grilled peppers on top, which were a nice touch. But for the price of $13, it was a really small portion. The menu was really expensive and all the portions looked small. But I guess you have to pay a price for a gorgeous view! The staff was excellent. We were sitting at the bar and the bartender was friendly and efficient. I'll come back for the view and a beer anytime, but may skip out on eating here.

We have been on the coast for four days and this is--by far--the best meal yet. We had the beer flight, onion rings, shared fish tacos and had mojito key lime pie for dessert--all excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable. We'll be back!!!

We made our first trip to the Pelican Pub during one of our semi-annual trips to the Central Oregon Coast every year. We drove from Waldport to the Three Capes Loop Area with a planned stop at the Pelican Pub for beer sampling and small meal. Our experience was almost entirely a let down. We were led from the hostess station where we were told there was a long wait for outdoor seating and no window seats inside to the near-empty dining room. My husband reiterated our desire for a window booth and was told there was none and he then pointed to the best seat in the house: the corner booth that seats 6. He said, "How about that one?" And she seated us there. We could see then that the patio, too, was near empty and she noticed it too and said, "I guess there's also seating outside". The Pelican Pub was out of its draft root beer, Mug Root Beer and at least the Saison beer and two more beers we were sad to discover. We ordered the Calamari and Tower of Onion Rings to start and a round of drinks - which the waitress confused when delivered. Our first beer sampler arrived with substitutions, of course. The calamari was undercooked, blond and soggy with oil but also contained comparatively little calamari and an abundance of those little octopus guys which our children wouldn't eat. The Tower of Onion Rings, apparently historically delivered on a dowel standing tall was served in a heap in a large soup bowl. The prices were high for the area as it is and unforgivably high considering the poor quality of the food and service. The Pelican Pub is in such a prime location for a wonderful experience for tourists but the food and service - and value - disappoint. It certain,y doesn't come close to fulfilling it's seemingly heartfelt mission on their website. We left without ordering anything else; buying the Root Beer Club t-shirts for the boys or souvenir t-shirt for my beer hobbyist husband.

Disappointing all around except for the beer. Linguini with clams; the smallest portion of linguini I've ever seen as an entree in the USA. The clams were all full of sand. Arugula salad with pear, cranberries & sweet walnuts. Added grilled salmon. Small piece of salmon that had a smaller bit of raw salmon in the middle. When the pieces are this small, it's hard to get medium rare. The pear was unripe and hard. It was OK. Bread was $1.00 for 2 slices. Shouldn't it come with the salad? I bake my own bread when I'm at home, and this was not today's bread. There's nothing in Pacific City to draw us back.

Everyone told us we HAD to go to Pelican Pub + Brewery and really, it wasn't too bad. They have a nice flight of beers pre-prepared and the service was OUTSTANDING. The overall ambience of the place is worth the drive to get to and, the fact that it's literally ON A BEACH makes is all the better. Really worth it--and the drive back to Manzanita is just breathtaking!

Seems like this place went a little down hill in regards to food quality. The last few times the clam chowder seemed a little bland. It was surprising to see the menu change. Unless you like seafood, there are very few choices. The view is always great. The beer wasn't awful.

  • Sarah A.

You can't beat the view here. I love Pacific City and this place is right on the beach front, with views of Haystack Rock. We just had basic soup and salad and it was all very good. The chowder was very very good as was the chili. The Riverhouse (local restaurant) blue cheese dressing on the salad was so good. I had to stop at the local grocery and buy it! The Kiwanda Creme Ale was really nice too.

This is a place you MUST GO TO... Once. The view is one of the best you will probably ever see at a brewery. (I'd say the epic North Face view of Mt Hood from Solera Brewing in Parkdale,OR is at least just as good though, see my review) The beer is pretty solid, they seem to always have a handful of interesting seasonals and one-off's (the type of stuff I'm usually into). The beer isn't just good because you're on a scenic section of the coast, although that helps. The beer is brewed clean and crisp, and they have something for everyone from monstrous, seasonal barely wines to poundable blonde ales. So. Good beer, amazing views, what's not to like? Well, this place is hideously expensive. Even for the coast. We're talking SIX BUCKS for a PINT. Dang. The food, is also recockulously expensive and...unlike the beer, not very good. It's just generic SYSCO-government-style food...at high-end prices. I don't mind throwing down some money on food if it blows me away...but you can get better food at your average Portland foodcart...for about 1/3rd the cost. Yeah, I know, stuff is more expensive because it's the coast, but even factoring in the "coast-tax", it remains very expensive and very average. Conclusion: come here for a view and a brew...then go somewhere else to eat. This is the type of place that I will always take visiting friends/family if they want to see the coast, but which I will probably never go to on my own.

Let me tell you a story, it occurs in a distant land... far far away... called Pacific City Oregon. After driving from the Bay Area to Pacific City for a family reunion and encountering a road closure that sent the families blood sugar into a nosedive, we stopped at the Pelican to enjoy a meal that was sure to satisfy. Oh how wrong we were. Upon arrival we waited 15 minutes for a table which only increased our anticipation for the meal that was about to be at hand. When our servers came over (1 in training and the other seemed to be also, but very nice) they started us off with drinks. Problem #1: The old fashioned that I ordered came carbonated. Upon requesting that they remake the old fashioned "neat", the drink came back out.... strained. Now if you are wondering what I mean by strained, I mean that they took the ice out and left the soda water and melted ice in the drink. When I went up to the bartender and explained the situation and how I wanted them to remake the drink, the snarky bartender informed me that he didn't know what he wanted me to do as an old fashioned is made with soda water. I proceeded to inform the professional that an old fashioned is actually made with a SPLASH of water to help dissolve the sugar cube, two dashes of bitters, muddled fruit and whisky/burbon. He proceeded to say "oh" with an attitude and then come bring it to me and ask me "is that good for you?" After my encounter with the bartender it was time for our appetizers to come out. The onion rings were good, which we chowed down in short order. My wives salad came out and was pretty bad for a Cesar, a little heavy on the anchovies. Then, after a long and agonizing wait for our food, came the entrees. My salad came with a very long, disgusting, black hair weaved throughout the salad. This as you can guess leads us to: Problem #2: I ask to see a manager, and when she finally comes out she proceeds to bend down to the table so that her face is level with it, and when I tell her that there is a long nasty hair in the food and her bartender gave me an attitude when not knowing how to amok the apple pie version of an american classic cocktail, she says: "Oh, I can see it from this angle" Really? The thing looked like rapunzle had used my salad as a stepladder. All in all, the food was mediocre, the beer was terrible (except the clam chowder) and overpriced. Recommendation: stay away.

I really enjoy their beer but would suggest you go elsewhere for food. My burger was charred and flavorless, and the fish tacos were not much better. They do have good onion rings. Basically just mediocre overpriced bar food. The tsunami stout was very tasty, and their cream ale is really good too. The location is great, right on the beach.

Great location and beer, food not so much. This place is right on the beach, and the beers are good and cold. The food/menu needs to be changed. The chowder and individual pizzas are good, but if you are not a big seafood fan, this is not the place to go. VERY EXPENSIVE over priced food, and no good snacks on the menu at all. Is this a pub or restaurant? I'll go for the beer and view but definitely not the food.

I love this place, plain and simple. Pacific City is great for a quiet beach, awesome dune, and spectacular views. But Pelican Pub carries its own unique draw. My husband and I have NEVER had a bad meal here. Most recently, we took in-laws from Wisconsin for a short beach adventure and had to show them our favorite spot. The hostess was incredibly sweet and helpful, giving us a phone number to call when we were ready to put our names in for an outdoor table. If the weather is decent - sit outside! The view is unbeatable. And the sunset? Just stop. Our server (Audrey?) was spectacular - very helpful, sweet, and all around lovely. We had the salmon dish (um, gourmet), the fish tacos (yes yes yes), and the burger (again, way more gourmet than your average brew pub). It is obvious that the chef cares about food and wants diners to enjoy their experience. We ordered the tower of onion rings because we're crazy, and it was the only lackluster item of the night. Not bad, just not a "wow". But really, onion rings never wow me, so I might not be the right judge. Everything else was superb and the whole family marked the meal as one of the best of their trip. My husband would exclaim over the beer - as would I. I've always loved the Kiwanda Cream Ale, but this time there was a special treat: barrel-aged deliciousness! I had a chardonnay barrel-aged beer with added pear - incredible. I'm a big fan of the unfiltered, aged, sour, fruity beers, so this totally won for me. All in all, this place is the best. It's hard for us to imagine going anyplace else on the coast!

$4 home made root beer that tastes exactly like any of the bottled ones or Barqs for that matter. $14 bland bland bland macaroni and cheese. Even with the spinach, tomatoes, and bacon bread crumbs, it was tasteless and mushy. Unbelievably overpriced.

I definitely enjoyed my experience at the Pelican Pub - and the ONLY thing keeping it from 5 stars is that the prices are premium. Granted they are the main game in town but grrrrrrrrr. The beer itself is 5 stars. My favorite being the Red Lantern (I BELIEVE that it what is was called) and the SilverSpot IPA (more of a floral hoppy IPA). My infinitely better versed in beer tasting friends ordered a few taster trays of their seasonals and Stormwatcher beers and all were a lot of fun to taste the variety. As a brewery, they know what they're doing. Not that the food is bad - it's not - I didn't have a single thing I didn't enjoy. I had a bit of their clam chowder which was rich and creamy (and - not that it's hard - better than Mo's as is just about any other place). I got the Crab roll which featured fresh crab mixed with aioli, mustard on a hot dog. That was the one weird thing - it says hot dog bun on the menu and they aren't kidding - it was a cheap, 50 cent tiny hot dog bun. Wouldn't have minded seeing a more substantial bread choice. The side salad I got was substantial with plenty of greens. Our waitress was spot on and very helpful as we lingered for about 2 hours. We all split a Strawberry rhubarb crisp (YUM) and their seasonal ginger cake (okay but they ain't kidding about the ginger). I know it's a different vibe in summer having been here once a few years ago - it can get nutty - so the off season is the best time to go.

Great vibe. Drove two hours from my vacation spot in Portland to get to the ocean and chose this place for early dinner. Love how they are right on the ocean and have an open back patio right to the water. Better yet they have a section of the bar designated to take beer orders to take and go out back to the beach!!! My kind of place. the seafood is pretty fresh. I had calimari and the fish and chips. It was good and fresh. It didnt knock my socks off but it was quality and delicious. The atmosphere, beach scene and causal laid back nature of the establishment is the draw. I would go back in a heartbeat!

It's a LONG wait, but worth it! Just order a beer, walk outside and enjoy the finer things in life. Once you are seated, it's amazing food. I'm a picky person too. The onion rings, burgers and lettuce wraps are a good bet.

we really enjoyed our stop at this place, we sat at the bar we had the best fried calamari EVER!!! and I am not exaggerating! it just didn't feel greasy Ii was like a bite of fresh calamari. Our bartender was nice enough to let me try a few beers before I decided which one I want it. everybody was really busy but never stop smiling. it was such a shame that we are from Seattle and we couldn't carry a jug of beer all the way here. The beer was great, the view was great ! This is a definite stop to make after and beautiful hike in Cape Kiwanda

So this place gets a third star just for the location. Really that's what it boils down to. The place itself is rad, IF you can find a parking spot. I always go to the bar so I've rarely had to wait longer than 20 minutes once I'm in the door. The beer is great. The only issue (which is a big issue) is that it is so overpriced. An appetizer will run you $10-15 while you're meal is easily $20/person. I think anything over $15/entree shouldn't be able to call themselves a pub. And it's not that the food is great either. It's good, I'll admit, but not memorable. Fish tacos are OK, fish n'chips is gross, and the onion rings are only good because of the sauce, but that's really all I remember of the food, other than it was so expensive.

    (3)
  • Dan S.

Yeah, the beer and food are pretty good. Plus you can't beat the location...right on the beach! Like literally in the sand. But does everything have to be so damn expensive? I mean, it's not going to stop me from returning, cause I have been there a bunch of times. Also, with how high the prices are, can't the portions be bigger?!

    (4)
  • L B.

Love this place! The view is amazing and everyone is always so nice. The food is just a little over priced but the view is worth a million dollars so that makes up for it. I enjoyed the calamari but I the fish and chips had a little to be desired. My husband said they were good though so maybe it was just me. He had some type of pasta that was amazing! We will go there every time we visit the area. There is an inexpensive county campground across the street that we stayed. They have lots of bunny rabbits running around in the campground. Some live acoustic music would be amazing here, on the patio! Oh and the beer is great!

This pub has the most stunning location of any pub-brewery I've run across. With the Pacific Ocean and a popular beach at its doorstep, it draws crowds. Be prepared to wait for parking in their parking lot or, if you dare, try to find parking on the beach via the ONE-lane road (with two directions of traffic) which could include cars getting stuck in the sand; but you'd probably have to arrive in the morning to find a spot because they're pretty staked out on the beach. We finally found parking in their lot, then climbed the gigantic steep sand dune on the beach for fun. Then headed off to eat and quench our thirst. We had a dynamite waitress (and darn it, I can't remember her name), along with another one who went out of her way to find us seating. They have outdoor seating but we ate inside. Craft beer aficionados in our group love this place for its beer offerings and it's beautiful location, so they were once again in heaven. The food was typical pub food--nothing outstanding, but satisfying and good. We shared the tower of rings (onion rings) for an appy. I think I had fish tacos--can't even remember, so nothing mind-bogglingly memorable, but still--good and perf for a stunning beach day.

I visited here on Friday with my wife and four children and I will warn you that during the summer months there is a bit of a wait, but not their fault, however when we called ahead the person we talked to said there was no wait. They do have a good system of putting you in line and then texting you when your seat is ready. The service is good and the servers are very friendly and attentive. The pricing is expensive, but not necessarily for a place that serves seafood. My kids are not seafood fans so they ordered chicken fingers with fries, which for it just being chicken fingers was a little pricey. I ordered the fish and chips, which is the best I have ever eaten and this is considering that I grew up on the Oregon coast and in a fishing town. Sadly I cannot comment on the view, which I imagine was spectacular because there was a horrible fog bank swallowing up the whole town. Side note, a block away there is a wonderful kite shop.

Got into the place a little before 11 and was able to grab a pint from the bar and take it to the patio before they had tables set up. Bartender said it was gonna get crazy busy through the day as it was Dory Days, so there were lots of people around. Great beer, huge selection and perfect weather made it enjoyable. I don't know how the food was, or how the service was, as we just ordered from the bar and paid cash each time.

I have been going here at least once a year for many years. Yeah, it's always busy but what can you expect for a place that is right on the beach and pretty much the only place in town. But the food is excellent and the beers are very tasty as well! Only reason I knock off a star is because it is a bit expensive. But I still look forward to coming here!

I really, really, want to rate Pelican Pub higher, but can't. In the few weeks I've been back in Western Oregon, I've visited Pelican Pub twice. Why twice? The view rates 6 on a scale of 1 to 5! Particularly on a warm summer day sitting on the deck. What I love: 1) The view 2) Very nice servers (one handled a loud, drunk, obnoxious group of women during our last visit with grace that left everyone happy). Now about the food. I really want the food to live up to the setting, but that's a tough ask, and it just doesn't. The calamari app is very good, but not among the best I've had. The chowder was a little better than average. The fries are great! And the entree salads have been very good. The main course fish dishes have been solid due to the freshness of the fish, but the balance of the preparation (sauces, rub, etc.) our table has tried are ho-hum, and the veggies have ranged from bland to inedible (brussel sprouts...OK, had to try them as when done well they're really great, otherwise a tragic item on the plate.) Because it's such a beautiful and convenient spot, I'm sure I'll go again, but will likely stick to apps, soup and salad.

Absolutely fantastic! I had the the Kiwanda Cream ale, which was a gold winner. Awesome food too. I had the Napoleon Polenta, which was the best I've had. I couldn't even finish it. Incredible view watching the waves and surfers too. Staff was kind and quick. Laid back feeling in restaurant. I was surprised to read some of the bad reviews... I think those people didn't know why they were talking about. Great experience.

Back in the 1980's, this was an empty building with a great location. For years, our trips to Cape Kiwanda included a speculative conversation about what should open on this primo real estate. Although you may pay a little extra for the view, there's more to the Pelican than what you see out the window. The beer has a fine pedigree, and the food is enjoyable. I especially recommend the pizza (Jimmy the Greek!) or a seafood quesadilla. Unlike some local eateries, you can count on the Pelican to be open for business throughout the year. Whether you've come to the beach for blue skies or storms, the Pelican makes a good trip to the beach even better.

Location excellent - right on beach. Despite gold & silver large brew pub awards, the beer sampler proves thin and anything but robust after initial visit in January and again in March. Drive the extra 15 minutes to Lincoln City and McMenamins- scenary might be zero, but beer and oyster shooter 10 fold better than Pelican touristy crapola offerings.

My family (6 adults, 3 children) have been coming here for years for breakfast/lunch on our way home after spring break and we've always loved the food. We will not be going back. We usually arrive just a few minutes before 11 so we can have breakfast or lunch which had never been a problem. First when we were seated, the waitress sat us next to the only other couple there. I'm sure they were not pleased as we had 3 young children with us and there were many other tables available. Once seated, it took several minutes to put in our drink order. As we looked at the menu, we noticed it had changed and none of our favorites were there. Chicken fried steak gone, no eggs and hash browns of any sort, no pancake/waffle/french toast items for adults or children. We wondered why they were even open for breakfast. We then asked for the lunch menu. The lunch menu too had changed and the only thing of any interest was the hamburger. The kids got mac and cheese and chicken strips. 3 of the adults chose not to eat as nothing at all on the menu appealed to them. (Keep in mind that is now going through 2 full menus and still nothing appealed to them!) I will say that the food arrived quickly ... however ... My husband, myself and granddaughter had the cheeseburger. It was $13.99 and mediocre at best. Expensive and no flavor whatsoever. The 5 year old boy did like his mac and cheese. I had gotten the tower of onion rings as a treat for the kids and even those were horrible. NO flavor whatsoever, you take a bite and the onion comes right out - again, no flavor. I will say that the food arrived hot. This is a great disappointment as all of us loved coming here for the food and scenery for our last meal of spring break, but now we are looking for somewhere else to go. I would not go here for any meals at this time. It is unfortunate they revamped their menu and I'm thinking to save money - not a good option. Better to have a few favorites and good food rather than saving costs with boring, bland food.

The atmosphere is great. Their food used to be great a couple years ago but after changing their menu I have yet to find something that makes me want to order it again. The beer is good and do is the staff. I like the trivia games and other things they do.

Overpriced pub faire. Servers and hostess were very friendly, service was great! Drinking a beer on the porch facing the ocean was awesome! The kids played in the sand while we relaxed. Clam chowder was delicious. Fish and chips were good but overpriced. Most things on the menu are at a premium. Tourist gouging prices. $6.75 for an IPA pint that was decent but not exceptional. Ouch! Beers are tasty but average. Overall a good experience but broke the bank. The common man cannot afford to eat here.

Had a great experience at The Pelican from the moment we walked in. Staff was great and the beer and food were outstanding. We had the fish and chips, onion rings, and Napoleon Polenta. The onion rings are amazing and the sauce makes them even better. The fish and chips were perfect. I was surprised at the Polenta. Wonderful. Highly recommended.

Lets start off by saying I really liked their beers and the brew pub itself. I also enjoyed the food but it's never part of my star rating. The service was good as well. The only reason they aren't getting a five start is because of their prices. Growlers where normal at 15, but a 16oz pint for the same beer I filled with was 6 bucks. Yea, it's a beach front brewpub, but these prices are about what you'll find downtown NYC. I was there two weeks ago and that is what I was paying. Love the place but I'd almost rather get a growler fill then sneak it down to the beach and enjoy. Was there during the world cup game Nicole complained about yesterday, and yes the noise level was insane. The crowd was warned to just tune it down a notch or the tv turns off. That was not bad service, just someone mad they didn't get what they wanted.

Great beers with perfect Oregon coastal view of haystack. Service was a bit slow but perfect flight of beers. Salad was fresh and delicious. You definitely want to stop here when at coast.

Excellent views, food and service! Stopped here on our way from cannon beach. Had the shrimp Cobb salad, best blue cheese dressing I've ever had! Also had the fried oysters and clam chowder..amazing! Shelley was such a friendly waitress!

Super conveniently located if you're on the coast (where, to be fair, there is not really a ton of stuff to patronize in the first place), but I was pretty unimpressed with my caesar salad. It was like $10.99, and came with... romaine, croutons, and some grated parmesan. Which, okay, I know that sounds just like a caesar salad, but the dressing wasn't creamy, it was more vinaigrette-y, and I just didn't think it was that good. That said, I had some of my cousin's french fries, and those were AWESOME. I think they're beer battered? And the cream ale they brew there is very good (especially if you like your beer pretty hoppy, which I don't really, but I still thought it was good so that should say something). And the root beer float (because, yes, I'm a child who still orders root beer floats) was absolutely wonderful, even if it took forever and a day to come out. So! All in all, I'm giving Pelican a 3-star review... at least until the next time I'm out on the coast (since I'm sure there will be a next time). All things considered--the bad caesar, the awesome fries and delectable float--it about evens out! Next time, I'll be getting a straight-up beer float (they do those!) and like 10 orders of fries.

Came here due to it being a micro-brewery. The hostess said 1.5-2hrs wait for food. We tried to get a seat at the bar, no go. Ordered a brew and stepped outside for the views. Beer was great, wish I could have rated the food too.

We stay in Pacific City once a year and always come here. Food is average and the beer is also. I believe the beer used to be better years a go when it was a little brewpub. Not a lot of restaurants in Pacific City. EDIT* We just returned and had breakfast. The breakfast is terrible. I had the chicken fried steak which was tough. Do not get the homemade bisquet / hockey puck. That was the hardest chunk of flour I ever tasted. My wife had the fruit bowl that was sitting in some juice that had a fermented flavor. I'm taking a star away.

When I first walked inside the Pelican Pub & Brewery, I was immediately confronted with a lobby full of t-shirts and Pelican beer-related swag. It seemed very tourist trappy to me--kind of like a Stuckey's, but with beer instead of pecan logs. We waited a short time for a table on benches that were uncomfortably close to racks of t-shirts. That was weird. Our table was nicely situated with a great view of the ocean. The service was friendly and prompt. The beer was tasty. We ordered fish and chips. The food was just okay. Smallish pieces of cod. The batter was "meh". We asked for the fries "extra crispy" but they didn't seem very extra to me. I had a piece of "The King" cake for dessert. It was basically banana cake with peanut butter for frosting. Not bad but the outer edges had some old fridge taste. Not a terrible place. The prices were a bit on the high side, but what I'd expect from any restaurant right on the beach. Would I go back? Yeah, if I was in the area with a powerful hunger and thirst. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again, however.

Again I have to write another 5 star. We recently had our wedding here and the Pelican Pub really pulled off an amazing evening for us. The food and service were excellent, the beer is excellent, I like the Dorymans and the Scottish Ale the best, the atmosphere and view are perfect. I do think that it is moderately priced for a brew pub, but it is about good beer, food, location location location location and originality, you get you moneys worth for sure! The events coordinator, Courtney Fields did an excellent job making sure that our event was well planned and prepared and the event staff and manager were prompt, hard working and friendly, all of our guests had compliments for location, service and wonderful food and beverages. Ana, the in-house pastry chef did an amazing job with our wedding cake, purple velvet with green fondant which were our colors. She was creative and insightful of what we were looking for and I was shocked how awesome the cake looked! Thank you so much! I cannot wait to eat the anniversary cake! Chef Ged did a great job with his menu selections for the evening, when we went down earlier in September for a tasting, everything was well seasoned and tasty. I have never had anything less than above average for a meal here. The execution of food to the tables was swift and all meals were enjoyed by all. If you are planning an event I would highly recommend Pelican Pub, they worked within our budget, were responsive and prompt with ideas and communication. Our wedding went smooth and everyone had a really good time, who could ask for more!

Great brewery, great beers, great food, incredible location and story. The owners and employees so friendly and prideful. We go every time we head to Oregon, have the shirt to prove it. Only bummer their insignia on their beer glasses comes off in less than a year of use.

A day or two after we went to McMenamin's in Lincoln City, we feared that this place would be a repeat of he horrendously long waiting. Thankfully, it fit the bill nicely (pun intended). Our waiter was very friendly. I had their root beer to drink; it was a lot like McMenamin's root beer in a good way, because both were great. However, we got our food quicker. I again ordered a bowl of clam chowder, finishing up the pesto chicken penne that my mom got as well. The chowder was fantastic, and the pasta was great as well. If I go back to coastal Oregon, I would love to stop here again.

I have an "it's complicated" type of relationship with the Pelican. I've been coming here for years, as I watched Pacific City go from a sleepy little fishing burg (and the Oregon Coast's best kept secret) to a miniature version of Lincoln City. My outrigger canoe club drank here every Sunday after paddling sessions, until we broke apart a couple years ago. This is where my "bachelor party" began. So me 'n The Pelican, we got a lotta history...most of it good, some of it not so good. I'll start with the good. First of all, the beer. It wins a lot of awards. There's a reason for that, which is called It's Awesome. Second, the location. If you want to combine eating/drinking with an ocean view, some beach walking, and maybe some paddling/surfing/swimming/boarding, this is an excellent place for that. Third, the pizza. The Pelican knows how to throw a good pie. Now the not so good. The touristy-ness of the joint...don't get me wrong, the Oregon Coast needs these types of places and in a way it's part of the charm...but sometimes the crowds of Californians and Midwesterners are more than I can stand. Also, the rugrat factor...I understand it's at the beach and there are going to be kids...but why does everyone, I mean EVERYONE with kids choose to eat at the one place in town called a "Pub and Brewery"??!! There's the service...the typical server here is a local kid just trying to make a few bucks so she/he can move to Portland or go on one of those multi-month adventures kids go on, so their mind isn't exactly on the task at hand. Needless to say, the service isn't great. The prices, more than anything, keep me from coming here more often. I understand it's a tourist joint, and if Californians are willing to pay more then why not charge them? The problem is that the locals who come here suffer for it...but there are alternatives on the coast, so it's not that much of a problem. I do enjoy their beer though.

We went for lunch on a Sunday. We had excellent service and our food came fast. The food was great. Yes the prices are a little high but its to be expected for a place like this. Excited to go back and try more things.

Hubby and I ate here on February 2nd...during Super Bowl. The place definitely wasn't packed and many tables in the dining room were open because the majority of patrons were seated in the large banquet room where a TV was setup with the game on. The people in that room were quite noisy. We asked for a booth across from the bar, but were seated right next to the kitchen door and right across the walkway from the noisy banquet room. That was apparently the most convenient option for our waitress. We should have spoken up, but what is the sense when we've already asked for a certain table and been denied? Our server, Stacey S. according to our receipt, was quite a ding dong. She asked if we wanted to hear the dinner specials and we said no, thank you, and she proceeded to carry on anyway. We poured over the dinner menu and I finally looked at my husband and said that nothing on it looked appealing. $17 pasta or seafood was not really what we wanted. Hubby opted for the $15 burger and fries which was the only beef OR burger option on the dinner menu. He enjoyed it a lot. I asked to see a lunch menu for chicken options and Stacey S. did give me that option so I ordered the Tuscan Chicken burger. It was delicious. I also had the Creme Brulee afterward which was very tasty but cold. Hubby enjoyed a seasonal beer with dinner. The food was excellent with the exception of my dessert being served cold. Happy campers. However, the service wasn't great. When I ask to be seated away from the noise of other patrons and there are more than 10 tables open that would accomodate my request, then the server should oblige. For this, I am docking two points. If we had been able to eat in peace and quiet away from the noisy football-fan patrons and kitchen, I would have given 5 stars and a better tip than I left which was $2 for a $50 bill.

Absolutely beautiful view whether you're inside or out, but you definitely pay for it. It was almost $50 for two lunches and three beers! The food is nothing spectacular, the servers are friendly, and the beer is worthy of all its accolades.

Good beer and food was fine. Anyone that whines about the prices, you must not get out very much. Since this was my first time to the Pelican, I thought the beer was very good and the food was above average for a brew pub, but not having been here before my view is skewed. So why the 3 stars...well basically we at breakfast there which again was good, I had 4 pints and my girl 1 pint. The bill comes, i pay it (as well as my usual 40% tip), as we are walking out the server comes running up to us and informs us that she didn't charge us for a beer and that we need to cover that bill also. Here lies my issue, I just tipped you really well, and judging by some of the other comments on prices (read, cheap people) probably the best tip she will get all day, she should have just 'comped" the beer and said thanks have a great day. Instead we have to pay for another beer (which wasn't an issue) it is just the pricipal. I grew up with the motto, " in the service industry if someone takes care of you, you take care of them". Now it might not have been the servers choice, she might have some anal, micro-manager hovering over all the employees, if that is the case that person needs to work some tables and see what the real service industry is about... Would I go back to the pub, more then likely, even thought up the road at Basket Case wines the beer is better. Great views of the beach and good beer, not a bad combonation. Would I tip as good as I normally do no freaking way...

The food here is okay. The view is amazing, like any view on the Oregon coast, and it is probably worth coming here for a beer and an appetizer (although the beer gave me my first non-hangover headache from a beer ever). I can't recommend it for dinner at all though - even though there were open tables everywhere, the host made us wait for some time while she finished her conversations with her coworkers. They seated us as far away from the view as possible, which was disappointing given how many open view tables there were. The waitstaff was really loud (why do you have to yell at everyone? It wasn't noisy in the least). Worst of all though is how overly-priced everything here is - I haven't paid that much at the Timberline at the top of Mt Hood, and they have to truck all of their food up the mountain (and it is much much better). Their burgers are more expensive than most of the burgers in Portland and nowhere near the quality. My boyfriend had a burger and I had the fish and chips (I appreciate the option for a local fish and chips). My meal was good, but really not worth the cost at all given all the other options in Lincoln City, Depoe Bay and Newport. This is the second time I've been here, and my recent visit matched the first impression. I think if you are staying in Pacific City, it might be worth going to eat here. But heads-up on the sticker-shock of the menu pricing. My price range estimation is based on an entree and one beer.

The Thai Chicken Pizza is great, but I would opt to split it among 2 people as the taste--however delightful--grows old over the course of a whole pie. Half is perfect. Didn't care for their gourmet root beer. Service was great. Dealt with our party of 14 without problem. Will be back on our next visit to Pacific City.

AMAZING food. I went there twice while on vacation there. I had the BBQ Chicken Pizza (probably the best pizza I've ever had) and the Northwest Fish 'N Chips, also very good. Beer is pretty good, not great. BJ's Brewery is better in this area. Prices are too high. Average plate is $15-20.

No stars! Took my wife here looking for a special dinner for our anniversary while on vacation. Told me it was a 30 minute wait, it actually took 60 minutes! After 10 minutes we had not been waited on or even acknowledged so we walked out. Terribly disappointing, don't waste your time!

On a rainy Sunday night, we came to Cannon Beach to drive on the beach and run our dogs. My sweetheart suprised me with a stop in at the Pelican for a bite to eat, my first experience here. We are casually dressed for the rainy beach and sat at the bar to not have to spend time waiting for the crowded restaurant. The staff was busy and delightful. I loved the numbered glass mugs available for rent yearly. I ordered Fish & Chips and he ordered a Burger. The food was excellent. I love their panko breading on the fish. I wanted to order calamari so badly, but I wasn't that hungry so I will have to next time.

Made a point to drive off 101 to the Pelican because of a recommendation...It was so good that we drove an hour out of our way to hit it again on our way home. We ordered the flight of beers and tried them all. Zeroed in our favorite, the McPelican Ale and ordered two pints witha bowl of chowder. Chowder had slightly less clams, but all the flavor of Mo's, which is hard to beat. I was impressed. Then I got my sandwich...yellow fin tuna on a freshly made Asiago ciabatta bun with arugula, cucumber, red onion, tomato and a basil aioli....oh my....It was a delectable masterpiece, and not at all overpriced at $13. It came with fries or salad.....the salad was finished off nicely with cream ale-soaked craisins, almonds and cheese. Not your usual side salad. It was so good, in fact, that we decided to head up to Pacific City from Lincoln City for lunch the next day. I'd take The Pelican over Kyllo's or the Blackfish Cafe any day. We ordered the same exact lunch, and it was presented a little differently (tuna was sliced on the bias vs. placed flat on the bun) but the taste was identical. WE took home 2 cases of McPelican's Scottish Ale....yummmmm. A warm sunny day would make this place world class. We were there on a Thursday afternoon, 60 degrees and sunny.....sat beach side, and felt like we were in southern California.....not many places in Oregon have patios ON THE BEACH (Not a deck above, but sand at your feet) Now, the service is what you would expect in a coastal town, but I took that all in stride. I look forward to my next visit.

Really boring beer, food was okay. Sat on the patio view of ocean was nice but the public beach right in front of it was crowded, so that reduced the appeal. We drove over an hour to come here. Not sure I'd do that again

What a bummer! Had not been in 7yrs & in that time prices had tripled. I am prickly as we were ignored for 10min. The food was disappointing burger & salad were decent but we ordered calamari as they said it was the "best" sorry guys soggy & lukewarm :( really after we were ignored for 10min????? Just get the yummy beer to go & DON'T get sucked in to the tourist trap! $14 burger??? Higgins.... Yes brew pub??? Wtf????

Awful awful food. PNW has great seafood, but this place makes a mockery of the food. If im paying $17 for fish and chips I expect you to give me a good amount of really nice fish. Instead this place serves you 3 small pieces of fish, which are absolutely tasteless. For a place which has brewery in its name, the beer r was awful. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I'm in love with their fish & chips, chowder and Doryman's Dark Ale. Our server was awesome. She tried very hard to keep us happy-and she did. The prices are reasonable for any seafood restaurant directly on the beach. We hit this place every time we take vacation in the PNW! We've eaten at many many places while on vacation and this one is at the top of our list!

The beer sampler (about 2.5 ounces of each of seven beer varieties) was terrific and a great way to try all the different varieties. We liked all the dishes we ordered, especially the fish tacos, and the panko-crusted risotto cakes, which were unique. This place requires a bit of patience, since there are no reservations, almost always a wait, and the service is a little slow. They have a good system where you go play on the beach, and a computer calls your cell phone to tell you your table is ready. The Pelican Pub is right on a very active beach, lots of people building beach fires as dusk approaches, a great place to wait for your table.

I woke up early to take the kids on a day trip to the beach. We headed straight for the beaches in front of Pelican Pub where we spread out a big quilt as our home base. We did the steep hike up the dune to the south of the pub to enjoy an absolutely amazing view of the ocean and the surfers and kayakers below. We worked up a thirst and a hunger by the time we got back to the bottom. We went into Pelican Pub where I thought it would take an hour to get seated on Memorial week-end but we were ushered right to a table with an amazing view of the beach. A Dory Dark and fish and chips hit the spot. There were some healthier selections on the menu that I would generally choose (I swear!) but the hike and the blue skies just called for an indulgence. I thought the portions were a tad huge for my plate but the kids had good portion sizes. The waitress recommended the home made root beer and it was a big hit. "Creamy with a hint of chocolate undertones," as stated by my 10 year old son. Uh oh - future foody alert! After lunch we retreated back to our quilt in the sand where we piled on every beach towel that we brought to cocoon ourselves from the spring wind and we took a good, huddled nap.

We had lunch on a Tuesday and both had the soup and salad for $9. She had the clam chowder and I had chili since I'm not into the clam. The salad had dried cranberries and nuts on it which I like also it used a nice mix of darker greens. We both liked our soups. The chili is hearty and not too spicy, they could have served it a bit warmer though. I drank a pint of their IPA. It's not too hoppy, but after having the Vortex IPA at Fort George the day before this pailed in comparison. We sat outside which was protected from the wind but not the seagulls. There were several cheeky seagulls that took liberties with unwatched plates. Should maybe be called The Seagull instead of the Pelican.

Been to the Pelican pub and brewery bunches of times though the years. Every time I go back there i'm a little bit more dissapointed in it. The pub has arguably the best view of any pub in the Pacific NW its right on the beach, thats the best thing about it. The food is expensive and not that great, we shared an order of fish and chips, 2 chowders and a couple beers each and it was $60. The other thing that bugs me about this place is the inside feels like an Applebees or Chilis, just very corporate feel to it. Also the beer isn't that great, it used to be great....used to be some of the best beer you could get in Oregon but that has really gone downhill as well.

Note: I am not reviewing the food here, only the beer, service, and atmosphere. My wife and I went to Oregon to visit some friends, and we took a day to see the sights. After touring the nearby Tillamook factory and having a late lunch, we set out to see the coast, and maybe find the spot where some scenes from "Goonies" have been filmed. Along the way we decided to stop to get a drink and walk down the beach to see some waves roll in. This is where Pelican Pub and Brewery makes it's first impression. The location puts it probably more than a hundred yards(depending on tide) up the beach from the shoreline at the top of a rise. You can look down the slope at a long stretch of beach, as well as people playing, surfing and what not. It's a great view, and you can walk onto the beach right off of Pelican's back deck. Service was very good. Our waiter was courteous and direct, but the bar back provided the extra touch. When we asked for a recommendation on a local beer, he took the time to ask about our general preferences to cater his recommendation to our specific tastes. He also gave us some brief, but interesting insight into the brewing culture of Oregon, and how it compares to other states. The man had a clear and genuine pride for the craft, and it showed. He let us try a few 1 or 2 ounce tastes of something light, dark, and amber to help us decide. After the tasters, we had a couple of award winning Kiwanda Cream Ales, and they were outstanding. This was a very good stop for some refreshment and a little local culture for some out of town guests. Oregon has a very mature and thriving brewing culture, and Pelican Pub and Brewery was a great example, as well as a scenic place to take it in.

My honey and I came to Pacific City to enjoy a few days of sand, relaxation and ocean waves and planned on going to the Pelican Pub as it was recommended by a friend. When hunger called, we walked up to the Pelican and were promptly greeted and seated by the window. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, and the food arrived quickly. The beer recommendation was perfect and tasted exactly as it was described. My clam chowder was one of the best I've ever had, and very filling. An excellent experience, service, food and view included. We'll definitely be dining here again.

Pelican is an overcrowded, overpriced family style restaurant these days, with no "pub" feel. Their beer is decent to good, but their food is just awful. $15 for a small caesar salad that tastes like dirt? No thanks. Get some beer here and go, don't bother trying to eat at Pelican.

Have been to Pelican Pub for many years. Slowly the prices have gone up and the quality of their food has gone down. Went for Fish and Chips at lunch time. Service was slow but not too bad. They charged $15.99 for Fish and Chips which had (3) 2oz pieces of fish, french fries and cole slaw. The WORST Fish and Chips I have ever had. Small size(2oz) and ZERO flavor. If its good I'll tell you it's good. If it's bad I'll tell you it's bad. That's my LAST time at the Pelican Pub.

Pricey for what you get, and gimmicky. I ended up dropping $60 for two entrees, an appetizer, and two drinks. While that might be okay if the food was exceptional, or the selection had been better, I suppose it just wasn't what I was expecting. The menu included a lot of seafood (Which is expected, being on the water.) but there wasn't a whole lot else that stood out. I had the Northwest Fish N Chips, and while passable, there was nothing special about it. The fries were decent. The cole slaw seemed to not have much in the way of sauce or seasoning. I could have eaten some shredded cabbage to the same effect. The fish was, well, fish. It was breaded and deep-fried. It was pretty much average, I suppose. The onion rings as an appetizer were okay, but again they didn't stand out from rings in any other restaurant I've been to. My wife and I decided to come here because we were told the beer was phenominal. The beer was okay. I liked the stout and the cream ale. Most of the beer selection was too hoppy for my tastes. (So if you like an IPA or ESB, you may find them great.) When I asked the server if they had any bocks in their selection, she didn't know what I was talking about. She asked for me, and they did not. It wasn't a bad experience, and the wait staff were wonderful, but I do feel that I overpaid for a completely average meal. If you're looking for beer and better food, I'd suggest finding a McMenamin's.

Good pizza. Good burgers. AMAZING VIEWS. But still way to overpriced for your typical beach trip.

We spent a week in the area recently and ate at Pelican Pub twice. The food was great and the location and scenery were terrific. We would go again if we went back to the area.

Unfriendly wait staff! Found and eye lash in my appetizer and she still tried to make me pay for it. Order some Root Beer Soda for my two kids and wow $4.00 a piece!! The only thing great here is the BEER

Very cool place to stop on the Pacific Coast Highway! I tried their Amber Ale which was delicious and ordered some nachos that weren't on the menu but the waitress said they can still come up with something (which was nice). They have the perfect location right on the beach and even inside the place is very cozy and pleasant.

This in MHO is THE best brew pub in the State of Oregon. Full Sail is close but this one is better. They have about a dozen regular and seasonal brews just about all of which are national award winners. Pelican has the only good Belgian Style brew in the State. Unfortunately, you can only get it at the pub. The location is amazing. Its located ON the beach. Not near or across from but actually On the beach. Went there on Labor Day on one of the rare hot (85 degree) days on the Oregon Coast and the patio was packed with people spilling down onto the Beach and over to the huge sand dune just to the north. the food is good, not spectacular, and a little expensive for the area, but its really the only game in town. Service was good especially given how crowded the place usually is.

Calamari? Yum. Crab cakes? Yum. Red ale? Yum. Syrah? YUM. We wandered up to the Pelican after spending all of 5 minutes on the freezing cold beach, wanting some sort of libation. And libations we got, as well as very good appetizers. Our bartender was friendly and knew so much of the little town we're in - it was great! The view of the ocean kicks ass and the pub itself didn't smell like a urinal soaked in beer, which is common for a lot of the small town pubs I've been to. Yay!

It's the little things... You'll find pretty decent food and good service at good value at this spot right on the beach. Our experience was pretty good, but I think they miss the mark in pricing a few items: $6.00 for a root beer float? It's root beer and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They make the root beer and get the ice cream from neighbors just down the road in neighboring Tillamook. I would expect that price if Indiana Jones sourced the root beer and they traveled to Egypt to personally bring back your ice cream. Want two pieces of toast warmed up for your child? Pony up $4.00. Sure, they'll put butter, cinnamon, and sugar on it, but last time I went to my local spice trader, cinnamon wasn't $86 per ounce. $1.00 side of ranch? What? Someone in management must have really done some intense mathematics going into costing that one. The ranch is probably from some remote ranch in the Andes, or maybe there's a world ranch shortage I'm unaware of. Finally, let's say you didn't care about all that little stuff and you want a little memento of your time at Pelican's. There are $18 t-shirts in the lobby in all colors of the rainbow. $18 isn't necessarily a bad price to remember your local band's show, but for a restaurant? You've got to be a SERIOUS brand advocate to walk out of here and display their marketing message at that price. In 'n Out can command that price, I'm not sure Pelican's can. Pint glasses are only $5, so no complaints there. Good job. But $5 for a bumper sticker? Hmm....shouldn't those be free? Wouldn't that get your message out there and drive some demand? Something to think about. Here's a tip to Pelican's: you've put a lot of work into your great menu and beers. Your servers and hosts did a great job. Don't get greedy when it comes to the little stuff and re-think your merchandising strategy.

We frequent this Pub and normally this would be a 4 star review, but the last visit the food took 50 minutes to arrive.. Crayons and a baggie of goldfish crackers are always given to children (we appreciate this) Their beer is amazing, food too: but I could live without the prices. Nuff Said.

Everything about The Pelican SUCKED except the view. It started with terrible service and ended with a bad meal and more terrible service. To much $$ for the meal. 2 people for dinner without anything but water to drink was almost $60.00 After waiting about 30 minutes after eating for our bill, we just got up and walked to the lobby and waited another 5 minutes for the waitress to notice had left. She ran into the lobby hoping we didn't take off to hand us out bill. Never again! BJ's Tacos across the street on the other hand was AWESOME!!

All categories are above average, except cost. Has always been a gem, primarily due to the often cited location, but they've jacked the prices so that our family can't afford it. We go to PC a lot. I miss the oyster shooters, too. Hey, lower your ridiculous prices please! Tone down the "I know I'm local" vibe, too.

I've been here twice now, and think it's time for a review. The atmosphere is hard to beat. This is a good sized, attractively designed and laid out pub, although not significantly different inside than a lot of places. What sets it apart is the INCREDIBLE location and view. The back doors literally open up onto a beautiful oregon coast beach. In the summer you can watch surfers, beach babes, and dory boats coming in with the day's fresh catch of seafood. In the winter, there's no better place to watch a storm. As the countless medals hanging on the walls suggest, the quality here is top notch. There's a good variety of expertly crafted beers on tap, including a standard line-up of beers and several seasonal releases, including such infamous beers as the Mother of all Storms. I've had both breakfast and lunch here now, and the food is on par with the beer - very tasty, and a notch above what you find in your average brew-pub for sure. On my two visits, service has been mixed. The first time, on a busy sunny warm early spring day that brought a lot of people out to the beach, the staff was a bit overwhelmed, and the service was a little slow, but they were doing the best they could, and were very friendly and apologetic about their ability to serve the unexpected off-season crowd. The second time things were great. Our server was very attentive, and the bar manager made many stops at our table as well to make sure we were having a great time and enjoying our experience in Pacific City. I'd give this place a solid 5 on service if it weren't for the first experience. Selection is good. There's a good variety of styles on their standard line-up, including one or two styles that you don't generally see most breweries making. On top of that, the seasonals are quite varied and interesting, even if they're not really pushing any limits and getting too experimental. Like I mentioned before, the food has always been a step above what I usually expect to find in a brew pub. As for value, I think the food prices are a bit high, but they're the only show in town, the quality is good, and I don't mind spending an extra dollar or two per item to enjoy it with that kind of view.

I'm always at the coast, but this was my first time at Pelican. Here are my thoughts: Food: It was pretty good, though I thought it was on the expensive side. I shared a sandwich with my mom and it was enough for both of us. Beer: Eh....not that great. I love a good IPA and theirs was too hoppy for me. I've had better. I didn't even finish it, which never happens! ;) Service: Not bad. The waiter was nice, but I think they were just so busy it was hard to get anything mid-meal and took forever to get the check. Great view of the water...AND the million vehicles on the beach! Why the hell do they let cars on the beach!? Who wants to relax on a beach next to my muffler?? Obviously my rant has nothing to do with Pelican...just makes the view a little off. Overall, I don't think I would visit again.

We wanted to get out of the sun for awhile and get some restaurant food after camping for a bit so we stopped by here. Long wait on a summer day, but that is to be expected. The guys were happy with their beers and I thought the water and iced tea that I had were OK. Andrew and I shared the beer battered fries and bowl of chili. The fries were stellar and they had superb tarter sauce. The chili is different, it is made with pork and is very liquid-y but it was really good too. Downfall was Matt's salmon. It cost about $17, which seems reasonable for a salmon dish, there wasn't a whole lot of salmon, but for $17, eh, OK. The problem was there wasn't much else on the plate. There was a small scoop of mashed potatoes and a tiny portion of vegetables. Definitely skimpy on the sides. Do the potatoes/veges really cost that much for them to fill up the plate a bit more? If I go there again I would like to try the tower of onions. Someone at the table next to us appeared to have a salmon burger. It looked delicious.

The Pelican features great hand-crafted beer made onsite and a spectacular view of Cape Kiwanda. The food was pricey but good quality. The staff was attentive and polite and it has a patio for ocean-side dining. I do however think they could get some decent patio furniture as they have the cheap plastic stuff that comes from Kmart that lowers the beautiful surroundings a bit to a slightly cheapened feel. I will return again and look forward to that day.

Stopped here on our way to Newport. This place is in a beautiful location so we were pleased to be seated by a window with an ocean view. We were told that our server would be with us in a bit, however, after waiting 15 minutes we had to ask where exactly our server was. Thank goodness our original server never came because we had the joy of being served by Evan, who was awesome! So in short, the brews were mediocre and the food nothing exceptional (we had the clam chowder), however, Evan saved our experience here and made it completely enjoyable. We would return for the view, their IPA, and Evan's over the top service.

Seriously! $6.00 plus for a pint of beer! Decent beer but prices are way over Oregon beer brewpub average of about $4.00. Stopped in on vacation to have a brew and watch Oregon State play in College World Series. Big pub with what? One Motel 6 type television (Phillips 19" tube tv) with the game on. US Open was on the only other tv: same type. Service was very friendly and cup of chowder excellent. Food prices also way out of line. 2 stars are for the staff and chowder, otherwise only one star. Two cups of chowder and four pints of beer equalled $36.00. Won't be going back until they at least use some of their profit (place is packed) to buy a few decent televisions.

I remember their IPA being a little weak sauce when I had a tasting at a beer fest not so many moons ago. But we were in Pacific City in the off season, so the options were limited and we decided to come here for dinner and beers one night. So the place was dead on a tuesday night if I remember correctly. Even though it was empty, service was difficult to come by...so much so that we had ample time to decide on what we wanted for dinner and beer and ordered everything at once. The food wasn't anything spectacular...your standard greasy, fatty pub food. It was so standard that I forgot what I ate. As for the beer, not terribly impressed. I had something dark...stout or porter...but again, weak sauce. Its as if their beers are slightly watered down...not as full bodied as you're expecting them to be. Maybe I have higher standards than others, but I'm just not that impressed by Pelican Brewery Beer. On the upside the pub is right on the water with an amazing view (during the day, I'm sure) and surround by amazing natural beauty.

The location is great and convenient but I have to say, the service here at the Pelican pub is horrific! It took over 10 min for the server to acknowledge us, and a while more to get our beers... The food was quick and edible but we order another beer and she completely forgot.

You definitely want to go for the beer and the view because both are wonderful. The beer is difficult to find outside of the coast and Portland, so stock up while you're there! As for the food, it is your average pub fare with nothing that really stands out for me.

Lately, for breakfast, I've been craving Eggs Benedict. I know a few places where to go in Seattle, but I was on the Oregon Coast. I had seen an advertisement for a place that their breakfasts looked scrumptious and sounded oh soo good, BUT they were 120 miles away from where I was staying. NOPE, not going to work. Then I called Pelican Brew Pub and yes, they do serve breakfast until 11am on Sundays. A bit of a drive & I was there (about an hour, but it didn't bother me because I had been there before and even though not for breakfast, I doubted that I would be disappointed) ... READY to get Eggs Benedict. They actually have two listed on the menu, a Crab Cake Eggs Benedict and a Florentine Eggs Benedict. I opted for the one with the Crab Cakes for $13.95, think it was maybe a $2 more than the price for the Florentine. OMG - HEAVEN... and if things couldn't be any better, it was made better by having a mimosa with it, which I believe was with fresh squeezed orange juice. Service was amazing, friendly and relaxed but on top of things and not too overwhelming. The view while dining can't be beat, since it is located right on the beach!!! Watching the ocean's waves crash against the shore and the large rock that is close to shore along with the surfers is one of the most relaxing ways to spend a lazy Sunday morning in one of the Oregon coast's most amazing places. Even though beer and breakfast don't mix too well (well not for me at least), I was still able to pick up a couple bottles of beer to bring back home with me (Kiwanda Cream Ale is one of my favs) along with a surfboard bottle opener key chain sportin' the Pelican Brew Pub signage. They don't sell it up here in Seattle and I will definitely say that I'm a fan of their beer. So might as well bring some back with me to enjoy! You know something good has to be said for this place & their beer since I live in Seattle and have been here enough times to know to drive an hour or so for food and know what beers to buy without tasting!!!

This restaurant is the worst in all of pacific city. Not only are they over priced and there sea food gross but the service sucks and so do the employs several of them will likey be stealing stuff out of your car on there smoke break while the owners rip you off inside. This is a business that has many known meth users as employees

4 stars for beer....but my wallet is still recovering from overpriced food. Way too spendy for pub food. Best bet is to just drink the beer and if you want you can get a pint and sit out on the patio without going through waiter service.

The beer is pretty much unimpeachable. Had a flight of everything on draft, as well as two bottles of the pricier Belgians, and every single one was recommendable. Oregon has no shortage of solid IPAs, but the Silverspot has something distinctive and original that is worth seeking out . The seasonal Elemental tastes like the hops are still growing in the glass. Even the cream ale and the brown, usually two of my least favorite styles, had me reaching for another sip. In terms of the bottled Belgians, my favorite was the the rich and effervescent Bridal Ale, but the Saison is also worth a go. At $25, the cioppino should have had a better broth, but all of its seafood was cooked just right. The bay shrimp martini was as skimpy on the shrimp as it was heavy on the cabbage, but it had just the right amount of seasoning and diced jalapenos that the cabbage was gone by the end of the meal. I balked when the girlfriend ordered the gazpacho, but it paired so well with the beer tasting, that it may have made me a fan of a dish that I traditionally despise. Yeah, the food is pricey, but that is to be expected. You can probably get five-star food for the same price elsewhere, but not with this view, about 100 feet from the gorgeous shoreline. I'll be back someday, and I'll make sure that Pelican gets a spot on our tap rotation soon.

Really nice location. Varied menu and good brews (so I hear). We had the crab cakes, veggie pizza and I drank root beer. The crab cakes were a bit of a disappointment, but the pizza was fantastic. Service was SUPER friendly. I liked being able to eat and watch the ocean.

Sunset over the sand dunes, delicious food, and great beverage options. On a weekend trip to the beach from Portland we stopped for dinner here, and it has become one of our favorite places on the Oregon Coast. The location is right on the beach, allowing wonderful views. The service is attentive, even though the restaurant was completely full when we visited. The food is delicious, exceeding my expectation for a "pub and brewery". Additionally, they brew their own beers onsite, and offer tasting trays for connoisseurs (I know little about beers, but am told they are quite good). Definitely worth trying, especially at sunset.

A friend recommended I stop by here on my way up the coast during a road trip and I am so happy I did. Delicious beer, delicious food--I didn't want to leave. I'm so sad I didn't get to spend more time in the area and would have loved to have seen the view during the day and not in the dying dusk light.

What a wonderful experience we had today at the Pelican Pub and Brewery thanks to William, Aaron and Ashley! The food, beer sampler, service and atmosphere could not have been more enjoyable and fun. William's amazing knowledge of the beer made our experience of the "sampler" an unexpected adventure. Finding the Pelican Pub and Brewery tucked away in a small town on the coast was the highlight of our visit to Oregon.

The Good: The view is spectacular, the interior of the bar is fantastic, and the beer is great. The Bad: The food is mediocre (at best), the crowds are aweful, and the staff is really bad at customer service. The Ugly: Beer costs $6 a pint and you are looked at as a dollar sign rather than a customer. Local residents do not go to the Pelican as a general rule because of the high cost and lousy food and service. I have been both a resident and tourist in Pacific City and only frequent the Pelican on very rare occassions. This is unfortunate due to the fact that as a beer snob I would go there everyday if they were reasonable. I first found the Pelican at the Idaho Falls Beer Festival, the second largest beer fest outside of Denver, and loved the beer. But after going to the pub itself, I perfer to go to Twist Wine Co. and get a pint of Pelican beer for $4.

Ate here for breakfast. The food was decent but not outstanding. The view and location is fantastic. The one thing that was a bit of a bummer was the lack of cleanliness. The receptacle for the jams and jellies was filthy as well as the folder that held the check.

Mahi Mahi Fish and Chips! Thai Chicken Pizza! Yay! Shitty cocktails - Vodka and Soda tasted like flat Club Soda. Horribly placed TV's in the bar. But all in all, the atmosphere, service and food is awesome! Beer is good. Eeeh, that's all I got today.

First time eating at this restaurant and I was pretty impressed with the atmosphere and the food. Had the beer sampler and really like the IPA the most. Their cocktails are pretty yummy. I tried the Sneaker Wave and Lemon Drops and they were all so good!! For dinner I had the Fish and Chips. That was very yummy!!! Plus the view of the ocean and the cliffs at Cape Kiwanda was beautiful!! I will definitely be coming back.

The 4 star review is strongly connected to this place's location. First, you're right on the beach watching the surfers. It's awesome when the weather is decent. Second, there are few alternatives in the Pacific City area. Without these two factors, this would be a 3 star review. First, the beer. Like many Oregon breweries, Pelican has a very hoppy IPA. It doesn't go so far overboard as to taste like grapefruit juice. But there is definitely a citrus-like flavor present. Very nice. The porter was excellent. Very chocolaty with a very smooth finish and no harsh aftertaste. I didn't like the stout as much. It didn't seem to have as much body as I normally like and it had a somewhat bitter aftertaste (which is not uncommon with a lot of Oregon stouts I've tried). I've had the cream ale in bottles before and really like it as a refresher on a hot day. The food was pretty average overall. My brother in law had the bouillabaisse, which was decent. My sister had the crusted salmon, which she liked as well. I had the fish and chips, which I didn't care for. I like the breading on the fish to be relatively light and crunchy. Mine was relatively heavy and pretty moist (sort of greasy). I wouldn't order it again. My wife had the fish tacos, which was the only meal in our group that elicited high praise. Prices are a bit on the higher side but they are not unreasonable, especially considering the location and lack of alternatives. Service was very quick, attentive, and personable.

The view and the beer is the only thing this place has going for it. The food sucks and is over priced, the service is terrible and theres usually a line out the door. To be fair I've eaten here four times and every time something went wrong with my meal. If you have to eat here play it safe with beer and fish n chips. There salads are pretty good as well.

Excellent service. Very clever texting you when your table is ready. The food is mediocre. Burgers were beyond well done. Reuben was soggy and not flavorful. We have come here each year for 15 years. They have slipped. We are going elsewhere next summer. Bummer. This had been a great tradition.

Pot roast meal was huge and very tasty; however, the burger was dry as well as the bun and despite adding lots of toppings, it remained poor. Really enjoyed the Scottish ale & IPA. Service was good at the bar. A second visit we had to beg to be seated and beg a bus boy for a beverage. We left before ordering food due to poor service; however, we did enjoy one more beer on the ocean side deck in the sun while watching all the folks on the beach, so not all was lost...

One Sentence Summary: Typical Bar Food at WAY over inflated prices. Have you ever been to a restaurant where they are too gimmicky with their menu? Well, this borders on throwing gimmicks at you. For example: The Tower of Rings (think Lord of the Rings and the Two Towers). Basically, onion rings served on a plate with a pole in the middle. $11. I'll take a pass. How about a House Salad for $6??? Sorry, but a House salad shouldn't have craisins and almonds in it. Save that for your house creation. I ordered the Fish and Chips. Hmmm... odd to have a choice between Snapper or Mahi-Mahi for fish and chips. Where's the Halibut or Cod??? I was in the mood, curious, so I ordered the Snapper. The plate came with cold stale fries, which were replaced quickly. The slaw lacked much flavor, a bit on the dull side. I added the Roumelade that came with the fish and that brightened it up some. I like my slaw a bit on the tangy side. Throw a bit of fruit or at the very least fruit juice in to liven it up. The fish was ok, but the focus seems to be on the breading which seemed a bit dark. The fish itself was dry. Maybe overcooked? But at $16 for a lunch fish and chips!?! I had the Stout Tsunami Stout. I have say, it was pretty good. I also tried a slice of pizza which seems to have potential. If there are two or three of you and you must eat here, I suggest grabbing a pizza, a house salad, and an appetizer. Save your money for better food at a nicer restaurant. Pelican thinks highly of their own beer. They have medals and certificates galore of all of their winnings. Here is the thing. There are thousands of brew festivals all over the country and world each year. Just try it and see if you like it. That is all that is important. By the way, you can buy their "seasonal" short sleeve t-shirt on your way out for $25. Ouch!

Monday, after a wonderfully sunny day at Cape Kiwanda beach four of us went to the Pelican Pub & Brewhouse. No choice really. Seagulls got into the PB&J I brought in a bid to save money. That went badly. My fault. The food we received was inconsistent. The Calamari appetizer was superb. Cooked just right, lightly coated, and an excellent lightly spicy aoli. I thought the Wings were a bit salty, though everyone else thought they were good. That is saying something for an admitted saltaholic. The wings came with Ranch dressing. I prefer blue cheese which, was not an option and no celery or carrot sticks. I can let the lack of veggies easily slide. I actually liked the fries. Especially, dipped in tartar sauce. I was not expecting to like "beer battered fries". It seems ridiculous to me to batter a perfectly good piece of potato. But, I was proven wrong on these. They were really good. The Fish & Chips were loved by their consumer. The Po-Boy was not equally stunning. I had their chili. The write up on the menu spoke of "heaping" bowl. What I got was a barely one bean deep, small, shallow bowl of bland tasteless $11 bowl of crap. I asked right at the beginning for green onions which, only came three requests and I cannot tell you how many minutes later. Apparently, the Blackened Chicken with Bacon sandwich was a hit. The prices were quite high for a less than reliable table of fare. I was seriously disappointed. The lacking chili was confirmed by my dining partners as not just disappointing it was really bad. Pelican Pub & Brewhouse gets two stars because of the Calamari and 50% of my dining partners were quite happy. The deserts looked delish. But, after the expense and disappointing character of the other 50% of the meal we chose to pass.

My boyfriend surfs right outside of the Pelican Pub & Brewery, often. We stop in at the end of the surfing day. The pub is beautifully crafted with shakers; reminds me of Cape Cod. Because it's the closes brewery/pub from the downtown area, most people end up going here. The waiting room is very spacious, and the wait is long. No worry, you can kill time by looking at t-shirts and souvenirs adorning the walls. They're not cheap either, so make sure you really want/need it. When your peeper goes off, you're seated at one of the many booths. If you don't want to wait, the bar is always open seating. The menu is the same. Everything on the menu is pretty decent, you can't go wrong. Again, it's pub food, don't expect fancy food. Do expect fancy price. We always leave with at least a $35 dollar bill for two. Normally, we eat a light meal and share a glass of beer. It's good build up for that long drive home. There is a convenient store across the street if this gets too spendy or you can wait that long.

Oh come on...at lunch I had a mediocre french dip sandwich and a beer for $20?? Their "bowl" of chowder has now become just slightly larger than their "cup" and it's $6.00. This place may have a great view (even though they've raped the cape with their "cottages"), but every time I eat here I feel like I have to go shower afterwords. Get a brew, then go have a good meal at another of the several good restaurants this area has.

Three and a HALF stars. Let me explain, if this place were in a big city, it would probably get 3 stars. The food is decent pub food, but not fantastic. However, it's not in a big city, it's literally steps from the beach. Because of this, and the REALLY good beer they brew, they should get 4 stars. If you are staying in Pacific City and are looking for good food and beer, you really can't go wrong here. They have lots of stuff for kids, a gluten-free menu, and did I mention really good beer? I'm not even that much of a beer fan. (They have a good local wine list and a small selection of hard liquor) They can get very busy and the wait can be very long during high season and weekends, so be prepared. Otherwise, hang out on the deck on a warm summer evening, watch the sunset over the crash of the waves, and enjoy some of the coast's best beer. Yum.

Like it has been said you are paying for the view... The menu won't fail to remind you that nearly every thing is award winning. (pelican brewery 1990 is calling and they want there awards back) although this place maybe resting on there laurels, the beer is pretty stinkin' good. The prices may remind you of buying popcorn at the movie theater. We ordered the twenty seven dollar steak. It could hold the award the smallest petite steak ever. We suggest you bring your own growler fill it up and sit for free on the beach.

I'll go with 3 stars- just because I love their beer. But I've been visiting the Pelican for 10 years and they have finally gotten too big for their britches. I had the Fish and Chips ($16!!) and they were nothing special. My wife had the Fish Tacos and wasn't happy. Same fish as the Fish and Chips, just wrapped in a tough, thick, flour tortilla with some pico tossed on. My son had the Thai Chicken Pizza and it was obvious the crust had been pulled out of a box from the freezer, topped with some items and then set under the broiler. Don't get me wrong, it's a great spot, the beer is awesome and the service can be good. But for the money, I'd go somewhere else. Next time, I eat somewhere else, then go to the Pelican, grab a growler of beer and watch the sunset.

The food was just OK, but the beers and the service were great, so that's where the 4 stars comes from.

Vegetarian Diners: Times have changed and the Pelican Pub & Brewery in Pacific City, Oregon just isn't what it used to be. AMBIANCE: The restaurant looks like a typical brewery with dark wood on every surface: the walls, the floors, the bar and the window frames. When we visited the restaurant it was absolutely packed which meant that in addition to the forty five minute drive, we had another half hour wait for a table. There were screaming children running around everywhere. We opted to sit outside because the sun would soon be setting and because there was a big fireplace on the outdoor patio, but the fireplace was never lit. It was so cold outside, and the only redeeming element of the restaurant ambiance was the incredible view of the ocean and Haystack rock during the sunset. Otherwise it had the same overcrowded, chintzy feel of a Red Robin or BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse. MENU: Every item on their limited breakfast menu is either vegetarian friendly or can be made vegetarian friendly by omitting the meat. Lunch is a bit more limited although there is at least one vegetarian option in each category (i.e. one appetizer, one sandwich, one pizza and the usual: salad, salad and more salad). The dinner menu is just like the lunch menu with about one option per category that could be considered vegetarian. None of the options sound like they would be out of this world, but you'll at least have some options. FOOD: I ordered the vegetarian pasta which was garlic, tomato, roasted red peppers, eggplant, spinach and linguine pasta tossed with fresh basil and crushed red pepper. Sounds good, right? Wrong. Let me put it simply: It was just okay. SERVICE: Our server was totally stoned. He was a complete bonehead who disappeared frequently and for long periods of time. This was some of the worst service I have ever had. PRICE: My simple pasta dish was $12.99; completely overpriced. This restaurant is not worth your time or money.

The location is hard to beat, right at cape kiwanda and haystack II. After a good meal, you can walk right out onto the beach, or you can take a run up and down the massive sand dune to work up an appetite. The service here is quite good, their craft beers are all pretty damn good and the raspberry honey mead keeps my girlfriend happy (drunk). The food is standard upscale pub fare; the menu doesn't offer anything too surprising. That said, the menu is well executed; the pizzas are good, their appetizers are good. My one caution is against their attempts at Mexican food; it is easy to find better. The location and the beer put this place in the four-five star range and the food is good enough to let it settle comfortably at a four out of five.d

Doesn't get much better than this -- a brewery on the beach! Had to wait over 30 min for a table as the restaurant & bar was packed on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Luckily you can order a pint at the bar and then take it out to the back patio or even on the beach. As the bar staff seemed harried and didn't have time to let us sample many beers, nor was there a place to stand, we grabbed our drinks and headed outside. Unfortunately, although we stayed on the patio, our buzzer never went off, so eventually we went back in to inquire and they apologized that it wasn't working. My only complaint is that they didn't try very hard to find us (we were on restaurant property). Anyway, pretty much every seat is good, especially along the back by the windows facing the ocean. We shared a cup of clam chowder to start and it was fresh, hearty, & delicious. I had the fish & chips (mahi mahi version) which were not made with a thick batter but rather lightly breaded which really enhanced the dense moistness of the fish. My boyfriend had the blackened chicken sandwich which he also thoroughly enjoyed. He ordered the veggie side instead of fries or salad, and was given raw broccoli & carrots. I wish we lived closer as I would love to try all of their beers!

Every year we do Reach The Beach which ends at beautiful Pacific City. Every year we grab a bite to eat after our 100 mile adventure. Every year I am dissatisfied with their food. But, I go back because it's convenient. That will no longer be the case. My most recent visit was just as disappointing. I ordered their fish tacos and when they arrived I was in shock. I scraped out 3-4 flakey pieces of fish in each taco that were the size of my thumbnail. That is not an exaggeration. They were stingy with the cabbage as well. They wanted to charge me 16 bucks for the tacos. I was finally fed up. I politely requested the server over and explained to him that the amount of fish in the tacos was not acceptable. I ordered the fish n chips (soggy). After the server dropped off the fish n chips, he NEVER returned to ask how our meals were. He was too young and an inexperienced server to know that asking the customer if their meals were satisfactory after an initial disappointment could be the difference in a decent tip or a decent review. So there you have it. After many attempts to like this pub, I will no longer eat there. There is a small taco/burger joint right on the corner that serves 2 tacos for 6.50 that are quite delicious. I will not return.

This is heaven for me. Great beers, on the beach, dive town. Always take some bottles home with us! Located in Pacific City and on the beach in front of the southern Haystack Rock you can have a nice lunch and great award winning Pelican beers on their patio and watch the longboarders and dory fisherman. Sandy beach too! You are here for the beers. There is a very spacious restaurant and a meeting room all modern facilitie however their lineup of fresh beers is the bomb! My favourites are the MacPelican Scottish Ale, Doryman Dark Ale, Kiwanda Cream Ale and seasonal beers such as the Surfers and Nestucca ESB. You might feel like you are in SoCal at the beach on a warm sunny day. Cheers.

Its definitely worth the 2 plus hour drive from portland to this little beach town. Even if that ride is in a bumpy Jeep Wrangler that was apparantly an "upgrade" from enterprise (yea no power door locks or windows... theres an upgrade!). The scenery is beautiful and the beer is great... even on a cold spring afternoon. Upon walking in here, you know their beer is good.... they have awards to prove it. Their walls are decorated with GABF medals and plaques and signs awarding them the "best small brewpub" and then "Best large brew pub". This place is definitely a winner! I was not that hungry or interested in beer, but i tried the IPA and definitely loved it. It was exactly how an IPA should taste. I decided to just get a small bite to eat. I got the chilli with onions and cheese and a "small" ceasar salad. My parents followed suit with orders of clam chowder and salads. The chili was perfect for me... not too spicy1 I also loved that rather than ground meat, they had big chunks of beef. it was delicious. There was nothing small about my ceasar salad and i couldn't finish it. They definitely dont skimp on portions. Maybe if i came back and tried more food i wouldn't be as satisfied, but a brewpub on the beach with darn good chilli? i'm sold

The location is perfect. Pelican has an amazing beach and view. There is even a volleyball court right in front of the restaurant/brewery (perfect for after a few beers). Why 2 stars? 2 reasons, the food and the prices. We had the "award winning" clam chowder and the Caesar salad with bay shrimp. Why is it that every restaurant on the coast has "award winning" clam chowder? There must be an clam chowder award factory that churns out clam chowder awards all day long. To the point, the clam chowder was fair at best, the Caesar was bland and the $3.50 worth of shrimp added could barely fill a thimble. The prices for beer are silly high. $6.00 for a pint minimum. The beer is good, but no better than any other microbrew in Oregon. To conclude. If you want the location but don't want to spend loads of $$$ on meh food and average beer, buy a six pack from the grocery store up the street and drink it at the beach in front of Pelican (All the beaches in Oregon are public.. take that overpriced food!)

almost a 5, but too high of prices. excellent view of Pacific ocean. excellent wait staff with prompt seating, even on a Friday evening. food was very good, but not up to par with the prices. excellent variety on the menu, with A LOT of vegetarian options (and vegan!). woot! (this is rare for a restaurant!). bill was $80 for four of us, with only two sodas ordered (no alcohol). would we be back? sure, if $$ ain't an issue.

    (4)
  • Kyle T.

I ordered the scottish style ale and french dip. The wait was long for outdoors because it was a nice day so we just say inside. The wait was still long but about half as long as outside seating. I should have ordered something with fish since we were at the coast. I did not care for the french dip that I did order.

Wow, I am really shocked to see so many high reviews because this place was AWFUL. Sure the location is great but please...everything is on the coast in the area. The food was overpriced- my boyfriends dish was $16 for a handful of fries and 3 tiny pieces of overly fried fish. I had this disgusting pulled pork sandwich. The pork was not right. The consistency was that of undrained tuna and for some reason it tasted beefy. :/ Mine was $17. The only good thing was the calamari...it was a shareable portion ($15). It was good though and I just should have stopped there and not ordered the tuna beef. The service we got was terrible- really slow and suprisingly unfriendly. Unless you feel like spending around $60 for a near inedible dinner dont visit this place. I cant say I wouldnt stop by for a beer and calamari but we defintiely regretted not going to the pizza place a block away.

There can't be a brewer alive who works in a prettier locale than the picturesque beach of Pacific City OR. The Pelican Pub sits upon the Pacific City Beach, in front of a magnificent structure of dune, sea, and rock like some monarch from the past that is unwilling to settle for less than anything that ranks up there with the work of the best artists of the last 50 years. At Pelican, they realize the resource that surrounds them and they get everything out of it they can. The dining room is designed to show off the amazing view and maximize seating to pack in as many tourists as they can. After all, there really isn't anywhere else to go. I saw families waiting for a table for nearly an hour. Following this trend of maximization, the prices are somewhat steep. That isn't to say that what is served isn't full of quality, just that they'll get every penny out of you for it that they possibly can. And if you have a large group and you're visiting in the summer tourist season you'll also wait for it too. I found the beer to be delicious for the most part. The India Pelican Ale is full of mouth watering hops and malted just enough to let the hops stay star of the show. The Tsunami Stout is chocolaty, roasty and decadent. I'd travel here for those two beers alone. The food was also very tasty and service friendly and attentive ... which was impressive considering how busy they were.

I've tried quite a lot of clam chowder in my life and this place has one the best one. It's not just my opinion, couple of us tried it and we all agreed. Food is great but the beer is ok. One other thing I really like is that they have food and beer pairing.

I have been visiting Pacific City for years, and have frequented PPB that whole time. Generally their food is good, not out of this world, but good solid pub food. A lack of under-$10 items makes it a significant commitment of $$$ to sit down with your girlfriend or family. Their beer is pretty good, and they have off-sales for overnight stays and beach fires. Watch out for sunny weekend days, the wait can be brutal, but with the new BJ's Taco house next door serving a good lunch with a good beer for under $10, I would say that the PPB is not the only game on this side of Pacific City anymore.

This place is awesome. The food is way above average for a brewpub-which is actually quite a compliment. The beer is excellent. The location is unrivaled. All things considered perhaps the greatest brewpub in Oregon. I say perhaps because there are so many awesome options

  • Jack O.

What can I say.....two points to a brewery, the beer and the food, and in this case the location. Find me a brew house that sits on the sand. Ok, maybe I might be persuaded by the quiet beach and town to give this establishment a 5 star review but nope. The brews are second to none. In the beer world this is the equivalent of an Islay scotch. The Laphroaig 15 year old of the brews. Here they make a well rounded beer like those at North Coast Brewing Co. Sitting on the edge of the pacific, aged by the persistent ebb of tides. Sunny and bright yet cloudy and cool. OK, maybe I might be biased by the beach...maybe so, but check out the accolades on the walls from those that know quit a bit more then me about the nuances of beer. Cheers to the Pelican.

BloodyMary was good! Extra $ for sweet chili sauce for our calamari, REALLY!! Ordered a Reuben, it finally arrived after my husband had finished his bowl of clam chowder, about 25 minutes, at least. Many people seated after us and served before us. Not sure if it was due to our server not paying attention or ??, but when you pay $13 for a Reuben it should be on time and full of meat. Stick to the drinks and pick up a sandwich at a deli.

Good food, great beer and a little over priced. Not sure we expected to pay $75 before tip for a family of 4. However the food was good, the beer was great (Tsunami Stout a must), and the service was friendly and had great recommendations. We just thought they were a little over priced for pub food.

Had the tacos. Because I love tacos. They were fish and great. Beer is good. Enjoyed it many times before. Overall a cool place. Right on the beach with such a nice view. Read complaints that the place was spendy. But that is a lot of Yelp whining. Prompted by conversations of sausage our waitress said she had been to Leavenworth and my pal asked if she meant the Military prison. She meant the Bavarian town in Washington, but failed to mention if she was ever in any prison.... Oh well. Overall good food, good beers, and a great view.

Very over priced. Came later on a Friday evening, slow service. Food is typical brewery food. Beer was okay but very expensive for a brewery.

Terrific beer, beautiful location and ambiance, but they are way overpriced compared to other breweries up & down the Oregon coast. Apparently, they don't do happy hour either. Had an oyster burger @ Bill's Tavern & Brewery the day before for almost half the price of their Po' Boy. Loved the Doryman Dark beer; but they were out of Bad Santa. Didn't have food this time, but previously it's been ok.

I've been to the Pelican three times - 1st in 2005 for beer only, 2nd in 2008 for dinner and beer, and 3rd for beer only again. The location is fantastic - there can't be a better brewery location in the world. The ocean is just outside the door - you can take your pint onto the beach! Of course, it's the Oregon Coast, so you'll get rain in it, but still, the beach is right there! Their beer is great. On my third trip, we had the sampler (a steal at $6). The bartender did a great job explaining the different brews. BUT, their pint prices are astronomical ($6/pint, really?) and their growler prices are insane ($15 for a fill, really?? - then again, our hometown brewery fill prices range from $4 to $7). BUT, the Wee Heavy is amazing. As is the Doryman's Dark. And the IPA. Their beer is really, really good. My experience with their food isn't the same. It's pricey, over-thought, and doesn't live up to expectations. They should stick to the basics - some fried stuff, burgers, fries, a house salad, and not journey into the more-exotic. Bottom line: come to the Pelican. Get a sampler. Order a pint of your favorite. Skip the growler, go for the big bottles available in the cooler in the front. Don't order food. Enjoy the ocean view.

I've been coming to the Pelican periodically for the last five years, and *love* their beers. Overall, the food I've had (breakfast once, burger, fish and chips, salad, pizza) has been very tasty. It is pricey, but that is understandible given its locale and popularity. Although the wait at times has been lengthy, I've never had any problems with service. Good news: word on the street is that the Pelican is going to expand its distribution of beer.

Great location at a hidden beach town on the Oregon coast. You can sit outside with your feet literally in the sand overlooking the ocean. Good beer and a good menu with seafood. We had the shark bites which were interesting (had to try them since we'd never had shark before). Don't think I would order it again, but it was well cooked and seasoned. Really good fish and chips and ahi tuna sandwich. Definitely worth the effort to get to this place.

The view of a gigantic haystack rock and beautifuul beach makes this place. Otherwise it is just the usual bar food. Not great, but pretty good. I had the NW fish and chips which were deep fried for too long and sort of burnt. My wife had the crab cakes which were not good. They were garnished with red onions which overpowered the delicate crab flavor. Service was OK. I like their system of calling your phone when your table is ready. Allows you to go explore the beach while waiting for your table. We don't drink but I'm sure drinking the micro-brew enhances the food. :)

    (3)
  • Cari W.

I had the crab cakes platter and was not impressed. Nothing had flavor unless I added lemon or salt and pepper. My boyfriend had the wild salmon. I tried a little of everything on his plate and liked it all. We had the calamari and it got soggy pretty quick but the clam chowder was damn good. Overall, it's not worth the sunset dinner if the dinner isn't good, prices are too high, and the service is understaffed or just slow. Next time I'll just get a growler.

My friends and I stopped by Pelican Pub & Brewery on the 5th of July this year for the Pacific City 4th of July celebration. We waited for about 45 minutes for a table but enjoyed a couple beers out on the patio overlooking the ocean which helped make the wait bearable. We enjoyed some fantastic microbrews (I loved the hefe) and very good food. We drove down from Cape Lookout State Park and the drive was definitely worth it! After dinner, we walked along the beach to catch the fireworks.

This restaurant has a great location right next to the beach. Since it's basically the only option around it is a bit overpriced. The cheeseburger (which came on Ciabatta bread) was mediocre. I tried samples of two of their beers (Kiwanda Cream Ale & Surfer's Summer Ale) and was not impressed. Overall it was an okay experience.

The Pelican is great for what it is...a brewery on the beach. They have great beers and good pub food. I think that were they get off track is when they try to be a fancier restaurant and more complicated dishes. So definitely go to the Pelican...grab a beer and a burger and enjoy the amazing sunset.

A beautiful beach, good food and a brew pub, what more does one need? The micro brewery selections were all very enticing but we had to stick to one, which means multiple trips to Oregon, I wonder if they will ship this stuff? The service was very friendly and the location cannot be surpassed, says she, waxing lyrical on a weekday morning.

Great Beer ... i am some what of a snob, and think my beer taste buds have no rivals, so defiantly try a couple. Food ... pretty fair. Definitely not the best seafood I have had, but then again I am sort of a foodie, and it was not better than anything I would find in a mid priced seafood restaurant in L.A. Everything was pretty much seasoned to a tourists palate. The best thing about this place was the view. The beach was awesome. Being stuck out in the sand dunes for a week made the view of girls in swimsuits and a cold beer even better. I will be back on my next trip to play in the sand, but I might just skip dinner and have a couple pints while I sit on the deck.

Located on Oregon's scenic coast just north of Pacific City, Cape Kiwanda is easily overlooked because it's off the beaten path, but well worth the detour if you enjoy visiting the coast as much as my family and I. The food, the service, the location (which provides an opportunity to dine in a relaxed atmosphere with a view of the beach), will provide a superior dining experience. The seafood is delicious, and this microbrewery produces a remarkable India Pale Ale (among other brews) that will leave a lastingly good impression. If this is an overnight visit, consider lodging at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda, a short walk from the Pub. Leave the cell phone and DayTimer behind; come here to relax.

Don't waste your time! No stars! We waited 60 minutes for a table that they said would take 30 min. Finally seated but after another 10 min. wait without seeing a waitperson we walked out. The people in the booth behind us were asking to see the manger and were quite unhappy as well. Seemed understaffed and totally overwhelmed. We won't come back and won't recommend to anyone!

Every time we stay in PC we go to Pelican - mostly for the beer and the view. We read the recent reviews to some dismay, and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent service (thanks, Chris!) and speed with which our order came out. We ordered 4 appies between us, and our beer order came within 5 minutes, and the food within 15 minutes; it was Monday at 6:30pm. We have had times here when things seemed to take a really long time, but the service tonight was excellent, not pushy, no "tourist" comments. Would recommend for a casual and scenic night out. Price for 4 appies, 2 beers, 28th rootbeers was $65. The summer beers were very good!

Ridiculously overpriced and not really worth it in my opinion. Me and the hipster came here after our amazing lunch at BJ's just to grab a beer and see what all the fuss was about. He had the IPA and I had the sampler just to get a feel for Pelican. None of the beers left me satisfied and it just seemed like kind of a waste in the end. The service was spotty and I just couldn't justify paying $6 a pint.

We scheduled an important reunion with a classmate and chose a table by the seaside windows. We ordered carefully only to find the meals were not complete or wrong. We had to ask two servers to bring the right items but had to repeat. The attitude was not warm and friendly and the food (salads and chowder) only mediocre. The atmosphere is promising but both the service and food failed to deliver. The entire experience reminded me of some former-Soviet eating establishments where the idea conveyed was "just eat what was put in front of you and be grateful!" There is something like a monopoly at the location and this brew pub apparently can get all the business it needs without quality control. (The place was packed!) If you're in the area and want to sample some craft beer and maybe have a bowl of peanuts this is a great place. If you're looking for next destination meal I give this one on this one a miss. By the way we tipped generously, recognizing that the young people who served us were trying to survive; it is not their fault the place is poorly managed and a shame they are not being taught how to make a meal memorable.

I had a great time at the Pelican Pub and Brewery. The atmosphere is great, and the customer service is right on. The food & beer was good - but price points are a bit high for what you get...I guess you're paying for that perfect spot on the beach.

I have mixed feelings about writing this review mainly because I feel I should keep this to myself and not bring it to anyone else's attention, like a child that doesn't want to share his Halloween candy. Then again, I feel it must be said. Let me first start off by saying that we spent about 4 days in Pacific City and every single meal from breakfast to dinner during those 4 days was had at this place so I think I'm pretty well qualified to say this place is awesome in every way. I'll start with the beer- Let's just say that the plethora of awards their brew has won is not unjustified. They literally have something for everyone, whether you like hoppy or malty beers, you will definitely find something you'll love. Try the sampler and figure it out for yourself. Personally I found it difficult to stay away from the Scottish Style and the Kiwanda Cream Ales although their Belgian inspired ale and the stout are both also excellent. They also serve seasonal beers that vary depending on when you'll visit but the Surfer Summer Ale and their Bridal Ale are both excellent as well. Moving on to the food- As I stated earlier, we spent 4 days at the Inn across the street (owned by the same people and the same "no excuses" excellent service can be experienced throughout). Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner have all their specific different menus. Breakfast was fantastic every time. How about a Bloody Mary for breakfast? Their mix is done in-house and is spicy, savory and will most certainly wake you up. Also, do yourself a favor and try their beer pancakes... They are amazing. The Pelican serves a rather thick cut peppered bacon that's difficult to resist as well. The second or third day we tried their poached eggs in holandaise which did not disappoint at all either. They also serve Tully's coffee and ordering a beer with breakfast is not frowned upon at all; in fact, you should. Lunch and dinner menus are very similar so I'll cover it here. Do yourself a favor and order the pan fried oysters as they are large, meaty and delicious. They come accompanied with a small portion of white steamed rice and coleslaw which by the way, is extremely well prepared (not a huge fan of coleslaw yet I loved it here). The second day, I believe, we shared a tuna sandwich for a late breakfast (lunch is served after 11AM). This is not a tuna salad sandwich but an actual tuna steak, very well prepared, pink throughout which was appreciated considering how easy it can be to overcook a tuna steak. Their beef medallions are also quite good and tender. They had ran out of mashed potatoes so they served them with baby reds that particular night which I actually thought complimented the dish better than mashed potatoes could have. The clam linguine is also extremely good. Not cream based and garnished generously with sun dried tomatoes. Be prepared to do a little bit of work as you'll have to shell the steamed clams yourself but the dish is delicious. Most of their sandwiches are accompanied by fries, which look a little more like steak fries. These are also a signature item and are crispy on the outside (thanks to their beer coating) and tender inside. Lastly, their service is exceptional. You will be hard pressed to find a friendlier staff anywhere. They are always willing to accommodate you and make you feel comfortable and at home. Granted, we were there second week of October so it wasn't as busy as it could have been had we visited in the high season so take it for what it's worth. Overall we were glad to spend our meals at the Pelican Pub every chance we could; there was simply no reason to look anywhere else. The beer is excellent, the food is top notch and while they do carry typical pub fare, you can certainly enjoy some dishes you'd only expect on higher end restaurants and done well. To top it all off, you have direct beach access from the pub and an amazing, hypnotizing view. Every other eatery and restaurant in Pacific City must feel a little dwarfed by the amazing food and service you can find here. You'll certainly get bombarded from all fronts with awesomeness.

It's right on the beach...that's the biggest plus.

The view is unbelievable if you sit outside on the patio. Even inside, the whole place is full of huge windows. The food was better than you would expect from a pub on the ocean. I had the seafood quesadillas, and while a little sparse, were still very good and filling for a lunch. But, once again. The view. While sitting next to the beautiful, rocky Oregon shoreline, and sand dunes it is the perfect place to enjoy food in Pacific City.

The dark ale is really good and is worth stopping by just to give it a try (especially after a hike or a hard day at the beach...). Nice deck overlooking the ocean is definitely a nice plus. The food is over average bar food. Ended up having a really nice mahi mahi salad but that was a special. Service was attentionate and effective. Nice place to grab a great beer and good bar food.

I've only ever had a cheeseburger here but it is sooo good! The french fries and onion rings are awesome too!

Beer on the beach..can it get better than this?! This brew pub has lovely seating where you look at the ocean through these huge, glass windows. I've made this my yearly birthday trek for 3 years now. It's a hell of a drive from Eugene, but worth it. You go from the city, to the coast, to the farm country in one drive, beautiful! The food is outrageously good. I'd assume it would have to be since there aren't a lot of places to choose from in this up and coming artisan community. Why not stand out?! They have a nice gift shop where you can buy plenty o beer to take home. We only get a few varities in Eugene, so you know I stock up when I go! Watch the sunset here, drink in the orange light as well as the good beer....breath taking.

Hubby and I love this place! We have been there quite a few times - the real estate is prime! We went this past weekend and didn't have to wait too long - think we hit it right between lunch and dinner. It was busy since it was GORGEOUS out. After eating mouth watering fish tacos, we headed outside where we parked it on the patio and watched the world go by. I don't know what inspired us (alcohol?) but we climbed the sand dune. I didn't think I was going to make it, but I did and the view was entirely worth it. PS - buttery, creamy clam chowder. Eat it!

This place by far, is my favorite on the Oregon coast. It's where you go to have a beer or three with friends, to nourish yourself after a long day at the dunes, or after a trek up and down that exhausting hill. It's where you can go to watch the sunset outside on the patio beside the fireplace, or out on the sand next to a fire pit. So far, I've had an awesome burger and the fries are delious! Don't order the fish tacos or the house root beer, they suck! The India ale is delicious and well known. The staff I thought seemed odd, but my friends, the fries, ales, and sunsets make up for it. FYI, get your food to go, and splurge on the beach amongst your 4x4, friends, and a fire ;)

Ordered apps. Still waiting. Great view. Service not so much. Waitress was not on her "A" game. Food was great. Beer was excellent. Food was overpriced.

Scottish ale is the tits! The food is always good, and you can't beat the local. You have to go here often, and fill up your growler!

Great beer. Okay food. Overpriced, but the beer is worth it. I miss the low key days when they weren't pushing time-share condos next door. The view is amazing!

Great beer and amazing location. Sit on the patio and enjoy the sand between your toes.

Beer was great, we had Tsuanami Stout and Cream Ale. Both taste much like McMenamin's Terminator Stout and Cream Ale which okay because we like those too. We were forewarned not to go off the beaten path when ordering, so we though onion rings, clam chowder and fish tacos would be safe. The onion rings had no flavor and the fish tacos had a lot going on but no flavor either. It was surprisingly bland without any punch of anything. I couldn't decipher the fish flavor, the mango salsa while tasty and sweet was overly sweet and there was no spice to offset the sweetness. I think they could have a good thing going for them if they would just adjust their recipes a bit. Sounds like this is a typical experience for people with their food, now they just need to listen. Excellent location however and we had good service. We will be back but probably just for the chowder and beer!

Surfing and beer. Watching surfing and beer. Beach walking and beer. Fishing and beer. Really good food and excellent beer with unsurpassed views. You get the picture.

We've visited this pub on the ocean several times before, so I thought it was time to at least review our favorite lunch here: clam chowder. I usually am not fond of thicker clam chowder, but the Pelican's clam chowder is so flavorful and full of clams, I quickly forgot any objection I might have had. It is worth trying and I will definitely be ordering it again. I washed the chowder down with their Scotch ale, which is always smooth and a good match for the chowder. Their brews have won various awards around the world, even a win in Australia, and I recoolect those folks know a thing or two about good beer. So, way to go Pelican Pub! The location of the Pelican Pub is right on the Pacific ocean and has a beautiful beach and view, with outdoor patio seating on the beachside - very nice! If you find yourself with nothing to do some afternoon, no better place to do nothing than the Pelican Pub & Brewery!

Okay so the place gets a 5 for location stunning views of the mighty Pacific, haystack, and of course the sand dunes in shower or sun you won't be disappointed with the view from your table. Also the raspberry mead is excellent-so tasty and my favorite beverage there-try it if you want a great drink! The food here is a 3.5 some good pub food that won't disappoint and sometimes some tasty specials from time to time. Pizzas are my favorite thing on the menu here they are so tasty. If you are driving the coast it's a must.

Stopped here for the first time Saturday and was very pleased with all aspects of my visit. Tried the India Pelican Ale, just the right amount of hops and a touch of citrus, outstanding. The waitstaff was well informed and come to find out they get to sample all the menu items, which should be done at more establishments. The bayshrimp pizza was great, perfectly cooked, crispy on the bottom but not burnt. And the view of course was outstanding. Not sure why they call it haystack rock( the real one is a bit north), but I'll let that slide. Cant wait to come back.

This place is awesome. It's always the highlight of my trip to the coast. For starters the place is right on the beach. It's very clean, and inviting, the staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. The food is great and most importantly the beer is top of the line. Everyone should make a trip here.

This is a cool place to relax and drink a beer. The staff members are friendly and attentive; and the restaurant is clean and orderly. The food is good. I had the fish and chips--better than average. The husband had a fish sandwich and he raved about it. Beers were tasty. Overall a positive experience.

As Jill G. pointed out, this is fine for what it is--a brew pub on the coast. It has a wide selection of beers, which I'm told are decent. It has an amazing view of Pacific City Beach (and the sand dune if you're at the right table). The service is average. The food is average to slightly above average. I wouldn't have super high expectations, but it is not horrific by any means.

Summary: Heaven on Earth. Pretty simple formula, really. Oceanfront + INSANELY good beers + tasty food + cool owners = Heaven for a J. Their ESB is what love would taste like if it came in a bottle. Only markdown due to prices being substantially higher than when they opened, but I understand as PC has become the new Short Sands.

I think this is a great restaurant to try. They have some great beers which are made on location. The restaurant also has an amazing view of the ocean and is located right on the beach.

Great beer (see their impressive collection of medals from beerfests around the world on your way to the bathroom), great food, and great atmosphere. This place has it all. An environment that would be at home in the better neighborhoods of a large city like San Franciso, and a homey feel that the locals can enjoy after a hard day's work. This place is right on the beach. Sunsets here are spectacular. The menu is good pub food, and the service is great. I looked in the two conference rooms, and both looked very nice. They were roomy with great views of the beach. By great views, I mean, open the door and walk into the sand. The catch? Yes there is a catch: The Pelican Brewery is about 10 miles west of Hwy 101. It is in a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere. This place is always going to be invisible to everyone but those who are staying in or near Pacific City. It's a great little secret. Shhh!

I have had two meals at the Pub and here are my thoughts...Why are they so slow? Both meals took forever to come out and the server was nowhere to be found. The beer is fantastic but the rest is less than impressive. I really enjoy Pacific City and the Pub is pretty much the place to go. They need to work on getting food out and at least check in with your tables every 10-15 minutes. My wife and I had fish entrees and both the Ono and Mahi Mahi were dry and over cooked. The presentation was nice and the flavors seemed to work but fish jerky didn't help at all. By the way, worst pancake I have ever had. It was like rubber and would not even absorb the syrup. I have heard from locals that the food used to be amazing but has lost its luster. Pelican Pub you are better than this. I will be back but a little cautious about the food.

If the prices were more sane I might go with two stars, but this is a crazily overpriced restaurant serving below average food. Granted, $10.99 might not seem like a ton of cash for a nice shrimp appetizer. At least, not until you see it. Four puny "jumbo" prawns do not make a satisfying experience, and the sauce tasted like someone spilled a bottle of liquid smoke into the pot and decided not to say anything to the cook. Add to that a $6 bowl of bland beer cheese soup, a $3 plate of cold fries (sitting in the window a while?), and a $5.50 pint of below-average beer (for a brewery - it certainly beats Bud, but even Pyramid outperforms these guys), and you're starting to get the picture. While the table service was fine if a little excessively corporate ("Did you want to try our popular X appetizer? How about a refreshing Y beverage from the bar?") , the hostess was too interested in chatting up some dude to even greet us, and we waited several minutes until a server noticed us from across the room and came over to seat us. Being from Portland, I'm spoiled with better portions, better recipes, better brews, and all for better prices. Next time I'm at the beach I'll opt for some bread a few PBRs for the beach before I'll patron this place again.

We pulled in sometime around 8 p.m. for dinner on a Friday evening and was told there would be about a 20 min. wait for a table. When the hostess came to seat us she sat us in the middle of a walkway between the bar and the kitchen. When I asked if we could get a booth. I was told no other people would be sitting in them...not the case out of the five available booths three remained empty are entire time there...so I had to put up with eating in silence because I couldn't hear my dinner mate over the noise from the kitchen and the bar...not to mention the people who walked by behind me with trays of food, drinks and constantly touching the back of my chair on there way by. The food was lackluster and hugely overpriced...this includes the beer, and for some odd reason our meal (fish and chips and a cold salad took longer to get than some people that arrived/ and were seated after us. I can promise I won't be back.

Incredible location, drink your beer on the beach on a clear day and you'll want for nothing more. Which is probably a good thing as you'll be out there for an hour before you get your table, even on a weeknight. Definitely docking a star for that, but only one because their IPA is truly remarkable, worth the drive and the wait if you're in the area. The food was serviceable for a large family-oriented brewpub, just don't make the mistake I did and drink too much before it gets there!

Good food, darn good beer. Really bad service. It should never take twelve minutes to get a beer.
